Its been two years since the debut of Mindhunter on Netflix. And since then, the fans are longing to have another season as soon as possible. Though the streaming giant ordered for Mindhunter Season 2 way back, there has not been news on it from quite some time, until now. Executive Producer David Fincher recently announced the official premiere date for the upcoming season.
Mindhunter is a crime-drama, set in the late 1970s In the early days of criminal profiling and psychology at the FBI. The series centers around the exploits of FBI agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench, played by Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany respectively.
The pair reach out to interview convicted mass murderers in the hope of understanding what lead them to carry out their crimes. They also learn from the interviews they conduct to apply them to their ongoing cases.
The show loosely follows a crime book from Mark Olshaker and John E. Douglas, titled Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit. The series debuted in October 2017, and just after a month, the streaming giant renewed the show for its sophomore run.
Mindhunter Season 2: Premiere Date Announced
David Fincher also announced the premiere date of the sophomore run of Mindhunters. According to him, the second season is scheduled to premiere on August 16, 2019. Before this, executive producer Charlize Theron also hinted the audience that the second season might premiere in August 2019.
David Fincher Discussed Mindhunter Season 2
Speaking in KCRW’s The Treatment podcast, David Fincher talked about the possibilities of the upcoming season. Not just this, he also revealed some significant threads that’ll come along in the second season. According to him, the second season will jump forward to a time, where talk of strangers is much more common in the mainstream.
What Will Happen In Mindhunter Season 2?
David discussed some major plotline for the second season of Mindhunters way back in 2017. As he stated, the second season will feature the Atlanta Child Murders. Also, he added that they have a lot more African-American music, which will be helpful. For the fans, The Atlanta child murders were a series of killings that took place in 1979-1981. At the massacre, 28 children, teenagers, and adults were killed, and all of them were African-American.
As per the speculations about the second season, it will explore the Charles Manson case. The pop culture blog called The Hashtag Show reported that a few unnamed actors are cast as Charles Manson and Tex Watson. After that, Collider also listed that Damon Harriman will feature in Mindhunter Season 2 as Charles Manson. Not just this, the actor had wrapped his scenes as Manson in Mindhunter in last year, July.
