Narcos: Mexico Season 2; Premiere Schedule Revealed Accidentally, Will Land In February 2020

After worldwide acclaimed Narcos, Netflix played another drug cartel game with its associate series, Narcos: Mexico. The audience crazily loved this one too and started longing for its next run, Narcos: Mexico Season 2. Soon after the debut, the streaming service renewed the show along with a surprising video for the fans.


Initially, the Netflix series Narcos adapted to be a four-season run. But later, the series got its companion one in the name of Narcos: Mexico. The show is set in the 1980s in Mexico and is quite a part of the Narcos franchise. However, both of them are self-contained stories, as Narcos focuses on Pablo Escobar, (Wagner Moura) and Cali Cartel. Narcos Mexico previously set to be the fourth installment of the parent franchise, but later on, it turned out to be a companion series.

Narcos: Mexico Season 2: Release Date Accidentally Revealed

Yes! The release date for the next season of Narcos: Mexico is out now. José Maria Yazpik, who plays Amado Carrillo Fuentes on the show, unintentionally, revealed to a fan about the release of the second season. On a post of his official Instagram handle, a fan asked about the release date for Season 2. To that, he replied, ‘Febrero.’ That means the next season of drug cartel drama will land in February 2020. Though the comment has deleted later, the news filled the fans with utter joy and excitement.

This is not the first time when an actor or related authority accidentally unveiled the release date prior to the streaming service. Previously, Tobias Menzies, who will play Prince Philip in the upcoming season of The Crown revealed the release date. Also, Charlize Theron did the same for Mindhunters Season 2 back in August 2019. However, Netflix neither confirm nor denied the revelation about the second season of Narcos: Mexico.

Narcos: Mexico Season 2: Plot Details

The debut season of Narcos: Mexico followed the establishment of the modern Mexican drugs trade and focussed on real-life narco Felix Gallardo, a former Sinaloan police officer turned drug lord. To bring down Felix, Kiki Camarena, a Mexican-American DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) takes charge. After a whole season of run and chase, it finally ended with the abduction, torture, and murder of Kiki, whose death ultimately catalyzed the war on drugs.

The final episode of the first season also revealed the identity of the narrator of the show. Scoot McNairy, the narrator of the show, will play the agent Walt Breslin, a DEA agent in charge of Operation Layenda. He will lead a task force to bring to justice to those responsible for Kiki’s death. The end of the episode also heard, “We knew we were in a war. Now, it was our turn. Pretty soon, they were gonna know; they were in one too.” Also, the new version of the series will feature the rise of the Guadalajara Cartel in the 1980s.

Narcos: Mexico Season 2: Who Will Return?

In Narcos: Mexico Season 2, Scoot McNairy (12 Years of Slave) will stand in front of the screen as DEA agent Walt Breslin. Other than him, the entire cast from the previous season will return for the second run as well. This includes Diego Luna as Felix Gallardo, Tenoch Huerta as Rafael Cara Quintero, Teresa Ruiz, as Felix’s girlfriend Isabella Bautista, and Alejandro Edda as Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.
