NBC’s one of the debutante series has been renewed for another season. New Amsterdam Season 2 will be the next installment of the series. The announcement for the second season took place in February 2019, when the first season was in the middle of its debut run.
New Amsterdam is a medical drama series of NBC. The series is based on the book by Eric Manheimer, Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital. It revolves around Dr. Max Goodwin, played by Ryan Eggold. The show follows his journey as he becomes the medical director of one of the United States’ oldest public hospitals.
New Amsterdam debuted on September 25, 2018, on NBC and received mixed reviews from the audience and critics. According to the critics, the show was Dead on arrival and Heartfelt, well-meaning and dull. However, the audience loved the medical drama. The debut season averaged 7.6 million viewers per episode, and made it the second most popular new series this season, just after NBC’s Manifest.
Who Would Possibly Join The Cast In Sequel?
The lead star of the show, Eggold himself shared his opinion on the diverse approach of casting. According to him, Bellevue is such a melting pot for people all over the world and people for all walks of life †“poor, rich, every ethnicity, every gender, and orientation. He also added that if they reflect that in the cast more and more, the players we bring on the future, the players we bring on for one episode, stuff like that, that’s great, that reflects real life.
The show features Ryan Eggold as the lead medical director of the hospital. Along with him, Janet Montgomery feature as Dr. Lauren Bloom, Jocko Sims as Dr. Floyd Reynolds, Freema Agyeman as Dr. Helen Sharpe, Anupam Kher as Dr. Vijay Kapoor and Tyler Labine as Dr. Iggy Frome.
New Amsterdam Season 2: Plot Details
As the show is based on the long fifteen years experience of Eric Manheimer, there must be sureshot quite some plot that the show will provide in its upcoming seasons. He also served as a medical director at the hospital for fifteen years.
The show revolves around Ryan Eggold’s Doc portrayal of Max Goodwin. His mission is to reform one of the United States oldest public hospital, Bellevue Hospital. He wants to do this to provide the best possible care for the patients.
The second season will feature Dr. Bloom making some tough decisions. Meanwhile, Max’s wife is pregnant. Therefore, the second season will deal with this big step for the couple. Also, Max is suffering from Cancer. So, it will focus on Max’s chemo, as he wanted to be around and be healthy, so he can be a father.
Since Eggold also serves as the writer and director for the series, he also expressed his wish to contribute to the future plot line. He stated, “If we have the opportunity to continue, then I would love to have the opportunity to maybe even write one if David would allow me to crash his writers’ room. They do such a great job, so I would try to live up to what they are doing.”
New Amsterdam Season 2 Release Date
The first season debuted in September 2018 and just recently had its final episode. Even the production work for the second season hasn’t started yet. Therefore, it seems like the show will take some time to come back for another bang amongst the audience. New Amsterdam Season 2 would likely release in September 2019. However, NBC has yet to announce the official date for the release of the second season.
