Small Axe Season 2: Renewed? Creator Opens Up About The Future, Possibilities & More

Small Axe Season 2: Viewers who have been already seen the show know that Small Axe is a series made out of a collection of five films written, curated, and directed by the Oscar winner McQueen. These episodes have individual and unconnected stories. These are the stories of the Western-Indian community that lived in London around the time of 1960s and 1970s. For the run of the series, the show has been able to retell the life of the novelist Alex Weatle as well as the real story of Mangrove café.

The last episode of the series that released on December 18 in the U.S. was titled Education. This episode told the story of a twelve-year boy named Kingsley. Kingsley gets separated from his fellow classmates for being disruptive. He is placed in a school for children with special needs. All five episodes of the show have been a huge success. Ever since this release, fans have been wondering if there would be more of the show? Keep reading to find out all about it-

Would there be Small Axe Season 2?

Recently the creators opened up about the idea of Small Axe Season 2. In an interview with Express.co.uk, BBC confirmed that they do not have any plans for a second season yet. However, they would be very open to the idea of more such stories. In the interview, senior drama commissioner and executive producer of the show, Lucy Richer says that they couldn’t be more proud of Small Axe. She says that the show was originally started as a stand-alone collection of films for BBC One. However, now they would be delighted to welcome McQueen back to BBC One when and if he decides to work more with the Small Axe collection. Richer continued to say that there are a number of stories that are burning to be told, and Steve is quite a visionary film-maker.

What Do We Know More About The Show?

McQueen does not have any more films in his pipeline for upcoming days. These films that came out recently were also a work of 10 long years in making. So, viewers might have to wait quite longer for more episodes of the series. If the series does come back, it is unclear if John Boyega, Sharlene Whyte, and Letitia Wright would come back or not. Keeping in mind that the anthology series features new faces in each film, it seems unlikely that the trio would return for more.

Creator McQueen On The Future Of The Series

Talking about if he would like to work more on a project like this, McQueen says that he feels that for him, this series of films is like a science fiction movie as far as he is concerned. He says that this series tells us where they are now and how far we have come. Ultimately, it tells all viewers about how far we must all go. That is the only case with McQueen. That is what he feels like Small Axe. McQueen continues to say that this series has always been about the future.

We will keep you updated with all the news about the show as we get it. So, you stay tuned. This first season of the show was critically acclaimed. So, let us just hope that the creators decide to make more of it.
