Star Trek Discovery Season 3: Plot Details

To stop AI Control, the Discovery Crew sent themselves in a wormhole at the end of the second season. That took them to almost 900 years in the future. This is the most far that any Star Trek TV series has ever gone to. Therefore, in the upcoming season, the crew will find themselves in a whole new world. There will be no intergalactic power of Federation and Starfleet to mingle up. However, new conflicts will still surround them.
Co-showrunner, Alex Kurtzman also discussed this intriguing plot. As he stated, the crew wanted to give themselves entirely new energy for season three with a whole new set of problems. Kurtzman also shared that he had experience working on the J.J. Abrams films, where they were stuck with canonical issues. They knew how Kirk had died and wondered how they could put him in jeopardy to make it feel real, he added. And all this led them to go with the alternate timeline.
