The Conners has finally cleared the air from Becky’s husband Mark’s death which could play a potential part in The Conners Season 4. Mark, played by Glenn Quinn, died due to a drug overdose in 2002. However, instead of recasting the character, the series decided to incorporate his death in the show as well. Now the upcoming season will probably explore Beck’s journey and how she deals with her past.
The spinoff of the long-running series Roseanne, The Conners follows a working-class family Conners struggling to live a normal life. After the death of Roseanne, the family was forced to face a day-to-day struggle to generate a moderate household income. But it becomes more difficult for them while living in the fictional mid-state exurb of Lanford, Illinois, which they haven’t done before.
The Conners Season 4: Has It Renewed For The Next Run?
As of now, ABC hasn’t declared the fate of The Conners Season 4. However, it’s too early to predict the future of the series since the third season is still underway. But, the third season will wrap soon on Wednesday, May 19. So we can expect that ABC would announce its renewal news in late May as it did with the third season. The recent season received an average of 0.66 ratings in the 18-49 demo and 3.82 million viewers.
However, it’s a cause for concern as the third season received 38 percent down in demo and 34 percent down in viewership. But it’s worth noting that The Conners has been the network’s highest-rated dramedy so far. Thus we can expect that the network would soon come up with the fourth season renewal news.
Showrunner Hoping To Return
In a recent interview, showrunner Bruce Helford scrapped the above concern of his show’s rating going down. Instead, he said that they did well in the ratings. Their devoted audience has once again proved their loyalty, and these DVR numbers are proof of it.
Bruce added that they are hopeful of returning. Speaking on the third season finale, Bruce said the finale could serve a satisfying ending to the season only. But they don’t consider it as the end of the show. He added they have been discussing the fourth season so that the network would come up with a great announcement anytime.
The Conners Season 4: What To Expect?
Though the plot hasn’t been unveiled yet, we can still expect that the relapse of Becky’s drinking problem can cause massive trouble in the fourth season as well. Speaking of which, Bruce said that Becky stopped drinking when she discovered about her pregnancy. But after her baby’s birth, instead of start drinking, she tried to stop. However, Bruce said that it’s not easy for someone to quit an addiction so quickly. Thus the upcoming season would focus more on Becky’s drinking problem and how she landed in rehab.
However, the series has finally explained the mystery behind Becky’s husband’s death. During Becky’s reunion with her former high-school rival, she eventually spilled the reason behind her alcoholism. Becky revealed in Episode 18, titled “Cheating, Revelations and a Box of Doll Heads,” that she started drinking after her husband Mark’s (Glenn Quinn) died in a motorcycle accident. Now that the series revealed the main reason behind her behavior, we can expect that the fourth season would focus on its aftermath.
