Its been a mere week since NBC’s spy drama, The Enemy Within concluded its finale. And even before that, the fans started asking about The Enemy Within Season 2. However, the network recently announced the cancellation of some of its shows, including The Enemy Within Season 2.
The Enemy Within revolves around the hard journey of Erica Shephard, played by Jennifer Carpenter. Erica, when served as the CIA Deputy Director of Operations, was forced to reveal some intel. The Russian master Terrorists Mikhail Vassily Tal (Lev Gorn) threaten her daughter and force her to disclose the names of the agents. As she does that, the CIA arrests her, and she got sentenced for life. However, she was resurrected again in order to join the hunt for Tal and his growing terrorist network.
The show received mixed ratings from the audience and the critics. Though the ultimate question arises, that why NBC canceled the show? If it gets renewed, then what would supposedly happen in the second season of The Enemy Within? Let’s find answers to all these questions.

The show was averaging just over 0.8 rating. However, the network canceled its freshman series including Abby’s, The Village and The Enemy Within. The cancellation news came out as a shock for the audience as they were desperately expecting the renewal of the show soon. Despite its okay ratings and reviews, the network decided to end its journey. The Enemy Within ranked eighth among all NBC dramas this season, following This Is Us, Manifest and New Amsterdam.

Speculations were spreading that the second season would introduce a new villain in the series. In the final episode of the first season, titled “Sierra Maestra,” Erica first took Tal’s side to gather information from him. He also revealed that an influential person in US intelligence had assisted him in the attacks before she kills him.

This could possibly have become the plot for the second season. Will Keaton (Morris Chestnut) also made clear that Erica will continue working with his team. As Erica didn’t tell anyone about the big revelation, she would have tried her best to pick out the person who is acting as the void in the US intelligence.
Since the debut season left the audience at a massive cliffhanger, the fans started creating theories about the second season. According to them, Tal’s partner might be someone that has already featured in the first season. However, were also some possibilities that the second season would introduce a completely new character.
The fans are still expecting the show will receive renewal by any other network. Or maybe NBC itself renew the show for The Enemy Within Season 2, seeing urge of the dedicated fans for the show.
