Netflix finally announced the release date of The Last Kingdom Season 4. It’s been more than a year since the fans last saw this series, but now their wait will be over in a month. This show is one of the most popular shows available on Netflix. The series got a tremendous response from the fans as well as the critics. The third season of this series even has a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In this article, the viewers can expect every detail about the next installment of this show. 

The Last Kingdom is a British historical fiction TV series. It is the remake of the Saxon Stories novel series created by Bernard Cornwell. As of the third season, Netflix had picked up the production solely, and it became a full Netflix exclusive. This show made its debut on 10 October 2015 on BBC. The last episode of this series was aired on 19 November 2018. Netflix gives the green light to the fourth season of this series on 26 December 2018. Since then, the fans are eagerly waiting for the upcoming installment of this show.

The Last Kingdom Season 4: Plot Details

The official synopsis of the forthcoming season has also been released. It reads, “After the death of Alfred, the relations between the kingdoms are shattered. Uhtred believes the timing is right to confront his uncle Aelfric and take back his ancestral home, Bebbanburg. However, future shifts in a different direction, leading Uhtred to realize that his destiny is bound to Alfred’s dream of a united land. This, and Uhtred’s feelings for Aethelflaed, drive him back into the politics that endanger to break out into war.”

In a recent interview, Beck Laursen said, “I think people are sort of worried about season 4, but I think it’s just going to kick them in the teeth. They are going to enjoy it. I am most confident about that. There are new, very powerful characters. I think everyone will be thrilled about it. We’re happy about it, and if we weren’t happy, you’d have reason to worry. We have some surprises for you guys!”

The Last Kingdom Season 4 will feature book number 7 &  8. The new season will see another time skip and welcome aged-up versions of Uhtred’s kids who will have their own storylines this time around. The fans can expect the upcoming season to be better and bloodier than the previous ones. 

Who Will Be In It?

The fourth season of this show will see three new cast additions. Stefanie Martini, Jamie Blackley, and Ruby Hartley joined the cast for the next installment. Stefanie, who is renowned for her role in Prime Suspect 1973, will portray the character of “Eadith.” Jamie, best renowned for his role in If I Stay, will be seen as “Eardwulf.” Ruby Hartley will be making her TV debut with The Last Kingdom Season 4. 

Along with these three, the cast members from the previous season will also return. The returning faces include Ian Hart as “Beocca,” Toby Regbo as “Aethelred,” Emily Cox as “Brida,” Timothy Innes as “Edward,” Eliza Butterworth as “Aelswith,” Mark Rowley as “Finan,” Millie Brady as “Aethelflaed,” Magnus Bruun as “Cnut,” and Jeppe Beck Laursen as “Hastein.”
