The Last Kingdom Season 4: The British Historical fiction- The Last Kingdom is a show based on The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell. The show first aired in October of 2015 and gained much appreciation and love from the viewers. The show was renewed for The Last Kingdom Season 4 in December 2018. Now that the show is just around the corner, fans’ excitement is also getting high. Here are all the details about the series you need to know before the show hits the screens.

What Will Happen In The Last Kingdom Season 4

The Last Kingdom follows the backdrop of 9th century AD. The series is adapted from Bernard Cornwell’s collection, The Saxon Stories. Each season is based on two books. The story is led by Uhtred, a Saxon boy who lives with Danes and is brought out by them. They had captured him and decided to raise him like their own.

As the story continues, Uthred betrays the Danes and starts believing that he killed his father, Ragnar the Elder, the Danish Warlord. Uhtred forcefully moves to Wessex. Wessex is the only Kingdom out of the seven that are not under Danish control. Once he starts leaving in the Wessex, he betrays his family. He offers help to the King of Wessex, Alfred, by sharing Danes’ battle strategy.

The Last Kingdom Season 4 will be based on the next book from the Saxon stories, the Pagan Lord. Pagan Lord published back in 2013. The show will take a leap of a decade. Uhtred’s  Children are now all grown up. Along with a batch of new characters and actors, the show will bring plenty of fighting, drama, and the question of loyalty. In The Last Kingdom season 4, Uhtred of Bebbanburg might even challenge his uncle Aelfric. So, this could lead to a big, big war.

Who Will We See? 

Alexander Dreymon is all set to come back to the screen as Uhtred of Bebbanburg, perhaps a little greyer this time. Joseph Millson will comeback as uncle Aelfric too. With them, the cast we will see again includes, Toby Regbo as Aethelred, Ian Hart as Father Beocca, Emily Cox as Brida, Eliza Butterworth as Aelswith, Timothy Innes as King Edward, Mark Rowley as Finan, Magnus Brunn as Cnut, Millie Brady as Aethelfaed and Jeppe Beck Laursen as Haesten.

Stefanie Martini from Prime Suspect 1973 is all set to join The Last Kingdom season 4 as Aethelred’s new love interest.

Along with Stefanie, Jamie Blackley will join the cast too. He will be played Aethelred’s new wingman Eardwulf. We may get to see more new faces in the show as the story is set to take a ten years leap. Keep checking this space to know more about any new cast updates.

Where And When Can You Watch The Last Kingdom Season 4

The Last Kingdom season 1 and 2 initially aired on both BBC and Netflix. However, after season 3, BBC dropped the show, but Netflix continued with The Last Kingdom. So, The Last Kingdom season 4 is a solely Netflix production and will be available on the platform. At the time of renewal, Netflix announced that the show would drop in the summer of 2020. So, we can expect the show to reach us around April 2020, although the official date is not yet confirmed.
