San Diego Comic-Con brought a hell lot of good news for the fans of The Walking Dead. AMC renewed its most popular series for its next run, The Walking Dead Season 10, even before the finale of the ninth season. With its upcoming installment on its way, the die-hard followers of the show are longing for more and more updates. Here we have brought all the updates from the recent San Diego Comic-Con that fans should know.
The Walking Dead debuted in October 2010 as the post-apocalyptic horror series of AMC. The show is adapted from the comic by Frank Darabont. It has also been received well by critics and the audience as well. The show has received several award nominations also, including the Writers Guild of America Award for New Series and the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Drama Series.
Stars Discussed The Walking Dead Season 10
Norman Reedus, who plays the fan-favorite Daryl on the show, talked with Entertainment Tonight about how the upcoming season is going to be. According to him, the tenth season is entirely different, and there will be a whole theme of paranoia this year. He also teased that it will start to cause a split within the groups in who you can trust and who you can not, there will be spies too. Norman also added that it is a whole creepy way of doing things this year.
To this, Judith Grimes star Cailey Fleming continued as “The Whisperers are a really different threat. They’re terrifying, and you can’t tell if they’re a walker or a Whisperer.”
The Walking Dead Season 10: Will Feature New Character
The brand new incoming of last year, The Whisperers will be joined by a new character in the forthcoming season of The Walking Dead. Thora Birch is going to play Gamma. She will be the protector for The Whisperers who has also become a follower of Alpha. As suggested by her name, she will likely be the third-in-command of The Whisperers behind Alpha and Beta.
Kevin Carroll (The Leftovers) is also going to join the upcoming season. He will play Virgil, a survivor who is anxious to reunite with his family.
The Walking Dead Movie
Along with the announcement news, SDCC also premiered a small teaser video for The Walking Dead movie. The teaser ended with the words that the movie will appear only in theatres.
However, the shooting for the movie is yet to begin. It is expected to kick-start in the second half of this year. The film will continue the half-hanging story of the character Rick Grimes played by Andrew Lincoln. He left the show in the ninth season, as it was already known that he’d return in the movie.
The Walking Dead Season 10 Will Unravel More Secrets
The tenth season will delve the audience more in the underlying mysteries between Alpha (Samantha Morton) and Beta (Ryan Hurst). Ryan Hurst revealed this news at the SDCC. According to him, the upcoming season will investigate more about Alpha and Beta, and sort of why they became who they are. Also, he stated that it was a lot of fun to shoot for the tenth season too.
The upcoming season might also reveal the secret identity, that Beta is carrying behind that fleshy scary mask. In a talk with EW in March, the show-runner Angela Kang stated that they definitely have obvious, clear ideas of what Beta was doing before the apocalypse and in those early years and things. And it seems that the upcoming season will throw some light on that side as well.
Angela also revealed that the tenth season would explore not just paranoia but trauma and PTSD as well. As she stated, “One of the great things from the comic book that we got really excited about, there’s this idea of propaganda and paranoia, and this idea of silence the Whisperers, which creator Robert Kirkman played really well.”
