Popular for his role in The Vampire Diaries, Ian Somerhalder was a heartthrob of his time. Well, the charming actor has a lot of experience in the genre. However, his character in the recently released V Wars is much different from his role on The CW series. While Damon Salvatore was a badass vampire, V Wars’ Luther Swann is a human, fighting against the breed. Besides, the plot of the story is totally different from TVD.
The Vampire Diaries ran for eight successful years, and despite its end back in 2017, fans are still crazy about it. The show is indeed one for the most loved vampire tales of all time. However, the show puts its base in a supernatural plotline with a series of fictional twists and turns. On the other hand, V Wars explains the existence or emergence of vampires through various scientific logic.
V Wars: Review
Despite having Ian Somerhalder as the biggest face of the series, V Wars didn’t manage to score as much as expected. While opinions are split in two, a large number of viewers blame the writing of the show for the poor response. The brand new December 5, 2019, show somehow survived because of Ian’s huge fanbase. However, it’s still surrounded by backlash and negative reviews.
Alongside the writing, the audience is also disappointed with the lack of logic in between a few critical plot developments. Although the performances of the series, especially the leads’, balances the overall presentation. The story is fast-paced, which sure is a good thing to cover up content in a 10-episode season. However, at times, it feels rushed and ends up deteriorating a character’s connection with the viewers.
Well, the show gets better after the third or fourth episode, at least enough to watch until the end. The highlight of the entire season is the ending. Ian’s character shifts from giving a well-mannered family man vibe to a badass vibe. We’re given some pretty steamy scene of the hot actor working out and getting ready to get revenge. However, honestly, this scene is our only motivation to hope for a renewal of V Wars Season 2.
V Wars Season 2: Renewal
Netflix is yet to announce an official renewal of the series. However, with the way Season 1 ended, it’s pretty clear that we’ll soon get V Wars Season 2 on the screen. Besides, the streamer usually waits for at least a month to analyze the response and renew a show for another run. The first installment may be getting negative reviews as of now, but it’s still popular enough (mainly because of Ian) to get a second shot.
On the other hand, all the actors, especially Ian Somerhalder, is heavily confident about V Wars Season 2. Upon speaking to Digital Spy, he reveals that he knows what’s coming in the future installments, and they’re going to be ‘sick.’ Moreover, he also adds that they already have subsequent seasons lined up for the future.
V Wars Season 2 Will Be Better Than Season 1
The ending of the first installment reveals that V Wars Season 2 is going to be hot! With Somerhalder getting into his fiery vibe again, the season will turn him into a rebel. Well, without having a renewal yet, it’s hard to predict a premiere date. However, like most other shows on Netflix, the series may follow an annual release pattern as well. Hence, V Wars Season 2 may return sometime around the end of 2020.
