Scott Clifton, the talented actor known for his role as Liam on The Bold and the Beautiful, recently opened up about his bittersweet experience winning an Emmy award. While winning an Emmy is undoubtedly a tremendous achievement, Clifton’s win was tinged with sadness and regret. Why is it so, and what is Clifton trying to say? Let’s find out what lies beneath the surface of his heartfelt revelation!
In a candid conversation with Maurice Benard on his State of Mind vlog, Clifton revealed that the same year he won the Emmy, his fellow CBS star Kristoff St. John from The Young and the Restless was also nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Neil. Both actors had already achieved success in their respective categories. The Bold And The Beautiful star Clifton won the Younger Actor Emmy in 2011 and Supporting Actor Emmy in 2013. While St. John won his first Emmy in 1992 and another in 2008.
But do you know what was the significance of the 2017 Emmy nomination? If either Clifton or St. John had won, they would have made history as the first actor in daytime television to have won an Emmy in all three actor categories. Clifton expressed his admiration for St. John, stating that they had spent time together at various events. Plus, winning the prestigious award meant a great deal to his fellow actor.
Tragically, St. John lost to Clifton in 2017, and he passed away in 2019, marking his last Emmy nomination. It was a sad moment for The Bold And The Beautiful actor as St. John’s desire to win and achieve the record of winning in all three categories. Reflecting on his own victory, Clifton confessed that the Emmy, though an honor, was not worth it to him.

Clifton appreciates the achievement and recognition of setting a record. But he can’t help but describe the experience as “bittersweet.” He humbly acknowledges that luck plays a role in winning and that submissions and packaging matter. While we assure Clifton that he deserved to win, we understand the conflicting emotions he may have, especially considering St. John’s passing. Ultimately, it was a competition between two remarkable actors, and unfortunately, only one could claim victory!
