It’s been years since our favorite show concluded, and yet, fans expect ‘Gravity Falls Season 3’ to somehow return. Well, while it’s already clear that the animated series is canceled after its second run, there’s still hope for its revival. In fact, it’s high time to question Alex Hirsch if he’s ever making the third season or not. Hence, here’s everything to know.
Gravity Falls debuted back in 2012, and as of today, it remains to be one of the best cartoon shows on Disney Channel. Creator and executive producer Alex Hirsch received immense praise and appreciation for his creative idea. The animated series was a major success for the channel. Hence, it was then renewed for a second outing that ran until 2016. However, despite its popularity, it couldn’t make it to the third season. So, is there any hope for Season 3?
Why Was The Show Canceled?
While the first two seasons of the popular show were running pretty well, Hirsch decided to end it with Season 2. When fans revolted, he explained that he’d found a suitable ending for the series. The last episode of the second season, ‘Weirdmageddon 3,’ completes the storyline.
Alex clarified that he intended to make the story about one particular adventurous Summer in the Dipper and Mabel. Hence, the storyline of the show will end on the last day of this Summer. On the other hand, he did not want to ruin the series by stretching the plot more than the plan. A large number of fans were outraged with the reasoning and demanded the series revival. However, some of them acknowledged his understanding of his show and were satisfied with the way it concludes.
Will ‘Gravity Falls Season 3’ Ever Come Out?
Despite concluding the show himself, Alex Hirsch makes statements that fuels hopes for ‘Gravity Falls Season 3.’ Through social media posts and interviews, Alex states that he loves his characters on the animated series. Besides, it’s hard to let them go. He also mentions that these characters deserve to return in the future. Although he’s not ready at the moment.
Back in 2016, Hirsch confessed that there is a possibility for its continuation sometime in the future. However, he confirms that he may address these characters and stories in some future form, such as a comic or a special. Well, he did prove his statement right with a 2018 graphic novel called ‘Gravity Falls: Lost Legends.’ Hence, there’s still hope that Alex may change his mind and actually make a third season of the show, or else a Gravity Falls special at least.
On the other hand, with the way his Twitter account looks, Alex Hirsch is still influenced by the idea of Gravity Falls Season 3. He keeps on mentioning the third season in some of his posts. This keeps the audience interested; however, it is also pretty frustrating. Although we have to mention that the creator seems pretty interested in reviving his popular creating and we hope he actually does at some point in time.

Gravity Falls Season 3: Release Date
After four years of Season 2’s conclusion, it’s almost clear that Season 3’s chances of return are pretty low. However, a large number of fans are still hopeful. In fact, by 2020, we already have multiple streaming platforms that can easily pick up dead shows that still have potential.
Although even if online streamers like Netflix or Disney+ revive the show, Gravity Falls Season 3 may still take several years to hit the screens. Hence, despite all circumstances, the animated series may not return anytime sooner than 2021.
