Netflix’s new controversial show rose to become one of the best comings of the new year. Those who’ve already binged the 10-episode thriller series have begun to question the renewal of Messiah Season 2. Starring Belgian actor Mehdi Dehbi as the modern-day Christ figure, the popular show managed to attract millions of eyeballs to the first episode. Well, Netflix’s big project has a lot of questions to answer in its second round. However, has the streamer renewed it yet? Here’s everything to know.
Netflix’s Messiah: Review
Messiah debuted on the popular streamer on January 1, 2020. With its first trailer back in December 2019, the show already raised a bunch of eyebrows. People began to question the series’ credibility upon the treatment of religious themes. In fact, several thousand of them signed an online petition against it.
However, on the release of the show, it managed to impress a large number of Netflix subscribers. Whereas, the number of people that signed the petition fell short of taking any action against the series. Messiah, with its wild concept and premise, won millions of hearts along with a few of the critics.
The controversial series sets a thrilling premise around the rise of a modern-day Jesus Christ figure. It follows the mysterious arrival of Al-Massih, a man who appears in the Middle East claiming to be Jesus. His teachings and apparent miracles quickly earn him a cult following. However, a large chunk of people is still doubtful of him, including the CIA. Hence, all his actions are then monitored by the CIA, creating much ruckus and a binge-worthy installment.
Messiah Season 2: Renewal
Netflix sure is pretty confident about the performance of its latest series. The streamer released several shows on the new year, and Messiah turned out to be the highest-rated of all. Hence, chances for its renewal are quite prominent. However, despite its popularity, the platform takes at least a month to renew a brand new program. Therefore, fans may have to wait for a little while to get any official announcement on Messiah Season 2’s renewal.
The debut season of the thriller show leaves us with several questions. Fans are expecting Messiah to return for a second round with these crucial answers. While the last episode titled “The Wagers of Sin” finally revealed that Payam Golshiri, aka Messiah, actually has some divine powers, including the resurrection of people from the dead. Whereas, Eva finally finds out that the man claiming to be Jesus was indeed born on the Earth. On the other hand, Al-Massih is revealed to be a con man since he was a kid to earn his daily bread.
However, the finale also revealed that there might be more people with these powers on the Earth. Messiah Season 2 is expected to bring these people to light and explain their existence. In fact, some theories suggest that Payam could actually be the Antichrist. While Jibril Medina, a man who survives a bomb blast, could turn out to be the real second coming of Jesus Christ. Fans expect the second installment to explore all questions mentioned above, looking at the way Season 1 ended.
