Alita Battle Angel 2: Star Rosa Salazar Talks Why The Movie Is Not Renewed Yet

Fans of Alita Battle Angel are in dire wait for the sequel. When will Alita Battle Angel 2 release? What will happen? These are the questions that are prevailing all of the Internet since the release of the movie, in February 2019. James Cameron’s long-awaited project did outstandingly great with the debut movie. The debut movie emerged as the fourth highest grosser of 2019. And with the fans interrogation for the sequel, it seems that Alita Battle Angel 2 would also break some mega records.
Despite receiving mixed or negative reviews from the critics, the debut movie achieved amazingly positive audience response. 21st Century Fox risked their 170 million dollars on Alita Battle Angel. However, the film grossed 400 million dollars worldwide and became popular among each age demographic. Still, it seems that the movie did not do well enough to achieve a sequel from creator James Cameron.

Alita Battle Angel 2: Reason Behind Delay

It seems like the big merger between Disney and Fox is one of the reasons for the delay of the mega sequel. The lead star of the movie, Rosa Salazar discussed that the mega-merger had complicated the future of countless projects, including Alita Battle Angel 2. According to her, the whole Disney/Fox acquisition is so involved, that this is not the right time for Rosa to call Alan Horn (Walt Disney Studios CEO) and be like, ‘Hey bro, I know you got a lot of stuff going on, but like what about Alita 2?

Alita Battle Angel 2: Rosa Shared Her Interest For The Sequel

At San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Rosa also expressed her views about the character she plays. As Rosa told Cinemablend, she loves the way she gets to play roles like Alita due to the range of stuff she gets to do to bring them to life on the screen. According to her, it is quite fascinating to leave this body behind and creating someone completely new, that exists in another dimension, that is wholly her own person, her own creation.

The First Movie Set Up For Alita Battle Angel 2

In the first movie, Alita tried to escape Iron City to reach upward, the city of Zalem. Along with her, Chiren (Jennifer Connelly), Grewishka (Jackie Earle Haley) and Hugo also tried to reach there but died. Hugo was also her love interest. With the feeling of revenge, Alita decides to enter Zalem anyhow and kill the villain, Nova.
The movie concluded with Alita challenging the Nova, the criminal entity of Zalem, who motivated Elita to travel upwards. This happened after she won the Motorball tournament. So, the sequels (yes, not just one) will feature how the girl tackles this huge villain and takes the vengeance of all the people who died.

Alita Battle Angel Manga

The movie is adapted from the 1990s classic Japanese Manga series, Gunnm created by Yukito Kishiro. According to that, Alita will further continue to work as a Hunter-Warrior, even after her triumph at Motorball. She then loses her championship match against Jashugan (Jai Courtney).
Later, she will get trapped in some circumstances developed by Nova where she has to kill Zapan (Ed Skrein) (She did that to resurrect his recently murdered father, Ido).
Further, Alita will be sentenced to death as she gets recruited by the Zalem spec-ops group. Though her main aim will be to kill Nova. This plot is according to the Manga. However, it only depends on Cameron and Rodriguez, how they want the sequel to be made.
The sequel is right now in the bubble. The audience is waiting to hear some good news; even the official renewal will do. However, it seems like they have to wait for a while, till this Disney Fox merger concludes. Till then stay tuned for the further updates on Alita Battle Angel 2.
