It has been a long time since we last saw Sherlock and Watson working on a case together. The previous movie, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows released back in 2012. And since then, fans have been waiting for Sherlock Holmes 3. However, we will have to wait a little longer as the movie is postponed for a year.
Sherlock Holmes 3: Delayed Schedule
Warner Bros. pictures announced that the first draft of the Sherlock Holmes 3 is in work. But because of the busy schedules of the three gems of the movie, Director Ritchie, Robert Downey Jr, and Jude Law, the film got delayed several times. Downey’s Iron Man is stuck in space right now and Jude Law portraying as the young Professor Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts has kept the stars pretty occupied.
After some long discussions and meetings, Warner Bros. scheduled a release date for Sherlock Holmes 3 in May 2018. However, the movie is rescheduled again because of the delay.
Will Moriarty Return as the Main Villain for Sherlock Holmes 3?
Sherlock Holmes: The Game of Shadows saw Professor James Moriarty (Jared Harris) as the prime felon in the movie. The Sherlock Holmes: Games of Shadows left with some unfinished business between Sherlock and Moriarty. Therefore, theories are building up that the third movie may talk about the mastermind Moriarty.
Though the actor Harris himself seemed less confident about his return. In a conversation with Harris, he stated that the last script he saw did not have Moriarty in it. If creators follow the same script, fans will see a new antagonist.
Sherlock Holmes 3: Set After a Long Time Jump
There were speculations that Sherlock Holmes 3 will feature a significant time gap. However, Jude Law himself stated that it had been a long time since the audience saw Sherlock and Watson. That is why they will also play as they have not seen each other for a long time either. This means that Detective Sherlock and Watson would spend some time separately and then they will unite back to solve the mystery.
Sherlock Holmes: Release date
Warner Bros. previously scheduled the movie to release on December 25, 2020. But because of the delayed schedule of the movie, the release date is postponed for another year. In March 2019, Sherlock Holmes 3 is rescheduled to premiere on December 22, 2021.
The movie will open head-to-head with one of the most acclaimed movies of 2022 like Hotel Transylvania, Universal’s Wicked and James Cameron’s Avatar 3. However, there is no doubt that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most portrayed character will bang the screens again with grand success.
