After 8 years, some good news has come around the way for Shrek. The Ogre might rise again with another installment of the film.
Technically, the film got renewed for the 5th installment in 2016. According to Polygon, DreamWork has renewed the film for 5th installment (In 2017), and the movie is focusing on a release in 2019 or 2020. Variety reported that Chris Meledandri who is the producer of “Minions” and “Despicable Me” is supervising a reboot of the Dreamworks animated series.
According to Meledandri, Shrek 5 will give a rebirth to the series. It will be a completely different storyline and plot. Well! It will just reinvent the series. Meledandri said that the hurdle for us has been to spot something that really does feel like it’s not merely yet another flick in a series of sequels. This clears the mindset for the Shrek 5. It will an entirely new and original storyline.
The Script Had Been Completed For Shrek 5
Eddie Murphy, the original star of the Shrek franchize confirmed the news for Shrek 5 in September 2016. Murphy also added that the film would release in 2019 or 2020 and the script for Shrek 5 is complete.
Austin Powers, Michael McCullers penned the narrative for the movie. It is based on his idea, with an aim to reinvent the Shrek franchise. Though the script for Shrek 5 was completed in 2016-17, it’s 3 years past that, and no further updates have come out about the film.
