We are finally edging closer to the launch of Animal Kingdom Season 5 after a year and a half break due to the global pandemic. Indeed we’re counting till the premiere until something closer to an exciting and thrilling trailer appears. But for now, we’ll deem whatever shorter or long teaser we’ll get, just like the one we have now. It hints the family would pay a huge price for what they did so far.
Animal Kingdom adapted from 2010’s Australian film of the same title. It follows the criminal Cody clan who commits crime and robberies to stay adrift. In which Janine “Smurf” Cody (Ellen Barkin) often played the mastermind of these illegal activities. That was later joined by Joshua “J” Cody (Finn Cole), who shortly challenges Smurf to acquire the power to rule the clan.
In the outbreak of the COVID-19, the production for the fifth season halted. However, it took several months to continue filming under the safety protocols. While we were speculating when filming will resume, the news broke that they begin filming. In September, the entire cast and crew members returned to the sets to continue filming. Soon in December, Pope actor Shawn Hatosy shared on Instagram that they have wrapped up filming the fifth season.
Animal Kingdom Season 5: What Will Happen Next?
As per the show’s official website, the upcoming season would split between the present and past of the Cody family. It begins with the present state of the family, who’s struggling to heal from their loss. Now, Pope, Deran, Craig, and J are still trying hard to deal with the death of Smurf while the family members are looking to avenge.
In the last season, we saw Smurf diagnosed with terminal cancer and decided to plan an amplified heist so that Smurf could die on her own terms. But she planned to take Pope with her before this could happen, and Smurf’s grandson J shot her dead. However, the next half would follow the Cody family’s past life, where young Smurf would see raising twins Julia and Pope. There, we will learn how Smurf raised them by working on dangerous jobs with the help of old and new friends.
Animal Kingdom Season 5: Who Will Return In The Next Run?
Well, it’s clear that many characters of the series would return. These include Shawn Hatosy as Andrew “Pope” Cody, Ben Robson as Craig Cody, Jake Weary as Deran Cody, and Finn Cole as Joshua “J” Cody. Elsewhere we should also expect new cast members in the younger version of the Cody family centered on 1984 flashbacks. Further, there’s no news about who will play Smurf, whether they will cast someone else or de-age Ellen.
Animal Kingdom Season 5: When Will It Release?
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the fifth season of Animal Kingdom would come soon this year. The news later confirmed when Animal Kingdom released its trailer focusing on Craig calling “family over everything” hinting Animal Kingdom Season 5 would air this summer.
Animal Kingdom Renewed For Season 6
TNT also renewed Animal Kingdom Season 6 before the fifth season could air. Sadly Animal Kingdom Season 6 would be the final season of the show. Well, the show has been the most-watched series on the network. It gained 27 million viewers across all the streaming platforms. Soon Deadline announced that Animal Kingdom would start filming the sixth season this February.
