Netflix

The creators have finally teased what Big Mouth fans can expect from the rebellious Big Mouth Season 5 during the virtual panel. They have also revealed how Missy’s new voice actor will play a massive part in bringing the changes which can reflect the current world. Well, the show has been known for portraying sensitive topics in cult comedy. However, the creators ensured instead of focusing on their anxieties, the upcoming season would focus more on their self-development.

Big Mouth has been on air since 2017, and ever since, it hilariously portrayed puberty-related sensitive issues, including sexual arousal. Throughout the series, those 7th graders interact with objects and people who offers them great but confusing advice. The last season also introduced Tito the Anxiety Mosquito. Now, let’s take a look at what next the series has planned for us.

Big Mouth Season 5: How Ayo Edebiri Landed On Missy’s Role?

Recently, the creative team spoke about the reason behind the recasting of Missy during the USC Comedy Festival. Ahead of the fourth season premiere, Jenny Slate stepped down to voice over Missy. Soon her decision took a storm as everyone began questioning her decision, especially when the Black Lives Matter protest was stomping. However, Slate quickly explained that it’s pretty challenging for her to play a mixed-race and half-Jewish since the show’s beginning.

“Black characters should be played by Black people,” she believes. Later the creators supported her decision leading to the recasting of Missy. A couple of months later, the news came, African-American comedian and writer Ayo Edebiri will play Missy. Ayo is famous for her work in Dickinson and Sunnyside. Well, Ayo is also one of the show’s writers. She took over Missy from Slate in the last-second episode titled Horrority House.

Andrew Goldberg Explain The Reason

During the virtual panel, Andrew said that they had auditioned lots of actors for this role. Ultimately, Ayo was “felt right” to play Missy in the upcoming season. Well, Ayo has been a part of the show as she was in the writer’s room. Even she witnessed the evolution of Missy. So, she has a great grasp over Missy’s changing life. Even Ayo can relate with her, so it will be easy for her to reflect Missy’s powerful aura.

Big Mouth Season 5: Creators Teased New Theme

Well, recasting Missy also implies that the show has to look beyond the fourth season. On which, Mark Levin said the fifth season would explore Missy’s political identity while focusing on other kids being politicians. Levin added that with the rise of the Black Lives Matter protest, COVID-19, and other endless events of 2020-21, political backing is a crucial part more than anything. Since Big Mouth claims a diverse team of voice actors and writers, they can easily catch up with others’ opinions.

Big Mouth Season 5: When Will It Air?

As of now, the fifth season is currently in the making stage. But, the creative team ensured that the fifth season would return sooner than the last season.
