Emmerdale: Liam’s Heartbreaking Bullying Storyline, Shares Producer

The ITV Soap has revealed the bullying storyline of Liam Connor. For sure, it’s going to be a heartbreaking one. The introduction of a new villain, Mason Radcliffe, by the showmakers has added a new layer to the storyline. Mason has already started targeting Liam in the school. Earlier, Coronation Street revealed its plan to explore school bullying with the teen group. According to reports, Dylan Wilson will be a crucial part of the storyline as Mason will try to influence his behaviour.

Further, Coronation Street fans can expect tensions between the adult characters. Liam’s mum, Maria Connor and stepdad, Gary Windass, will confront Sean Wilson on his son’s (Dylan) role in all the happenings. In a recent press con, Coronation Street’s producer Iain MacLeod stated, “What we wanted to do was tell a modern take on a bullying storyline.” He added that while he was growing up, at the time, someone could escape bullying once they returned home from school, but now it follows you everywhere in the form of online abuse. So, they aim to present the updated bullying story in order to make it impactful.”

Coronation Street: “Not A Teenage Story Telling But A Big Family Drama”

The show boss, while speaking with Digital Spy, shared that they intended to make it a big family drama rather than just teenage storytelling. He said, “ It’s as much about Gary, Maria and Sean – and Eileen and George as Dylan’s de facto grandparents – as it is about the kids.” MacLeod revealed that the plot is just the beginning. He informed that he has just read some scenes which are much deeper and will be released around February and March. Sharing a gist of the storyline, he said that it’s entirely heartbreaking for the children who are being bullied and the helplessness of parents as they know everything but are unable to do anything as the victims don’t want to speak up.

The whole situation made Gary and Maria super emotional. It’s desperately sad to watch it. Coronation Street producer asserted that the end goal is to give a positive message. Hence, the outcome will come out to be good for the people. When they seek help, they will receive it, and they will then be on a positive path. He added, “But before that, it’s an in-depth exploration of teenage mental health and bullying.” He concluded that if they succeed in getting it as right as it looks, he’ll be really proud. Coronation Street fans can’t wait for this solid storyline to be aired. Till then, let’s just keep a check on the spoilers.
