Coronation Street Welcomes Back Tommy Oprington

Tommy Oprington, played by Matt Milburn, has been visiting Coronation Street from time to time since 2016. The football star is the sporting icon of Steve McDonald and Tim Metcalfe. However, it seems like his recent time is more of a permanent stay in Weatherfield. But to surprise, he has left his football career and is now starting his new life as a decorator. The actor expressed his delight and said that he couldn’t be happier to get a more substantial role. 

When asked about his character’s personality, Coronation Street star said, “Tommy is a local footballing hero who everyone identifies with football. He’s also from humble beginnings, and he has managed to maintain that.” The soap actor emphasised that it’s similar to how he views his own heroes. He labeled his character as a ‘normal guy who has done well and stayed true to himself.’

However, now he is on a totally different path. The Corrie star has divorced and is planning to lead his life as a painter and decorator. Coronation Street Matt stated, “Tommy got to get by and earn a living, which he’s humble about and definitely not ashamed of. He’s welcomed the change, and it hasn’t affected him in a negative way.”

The Matt Milburn actor also shared that he has always wanted this role for years. Though it had been on his mind forever, he was taken aback yet over the moon after he actually got the call. Labeling the job as the ‘perfect job,’ the actor stated, “We’ve always been massive fans of the show in my household, growing up with it, and my mum still watches every episode.
