DWTS: Alexa PenaVega Says Carlos’ Jealousy Made The Show A Struggle — “It was So Much Harder!”

From the beginning, DWTS stars Alexa and Carlos’s relationship has been rocky. When the couple first met in 2012, they quickly connected and soon formed a serious relationship. They announced their engagement in August 2013 and tied the knot in January 2014, just a few months later.

After their time on DWTS, the couple turned their attention to having a family. In December 2016, they welcomed Ocean, their first boy; in June 2019, they welcomed Kingston; in May 2021, they welcomed Rio, their daughter. But there was also grief along the way when they got to know their daughter, Indy’s stillbirth in April 2024.

DWTS: Carlos’ Jealousy On The Show Left Alexa Struggling Behind The Scenes

The drama began in 2015 when Carlos and Alexa faced off on DWTS. Carlos now sees the experience as a “blessing,” but he wasn’t afraid to admit that jealousy sometimes arose, especially when he saw Alexa rehearse for long periods of time with professional dancer Mark Ballas. He even said that he would have found it difficult to sit at home and imagine Alexa spending 12 hours a day with another man if he hadn’t been on the show.

Alexa also didn’t sugarcoat it. She harshly said that Carlos was “extremely jealous” of her time spent with Mark. Carlos explained that the unity and grace seen on stage aren’t always what fans think. He says that although the performances may look intimate, the main focus is on following the steps correctly rather than romance. However, feelings aren’t always logical, especially when you’re seeing your spouse in such close physical proximity.

This is where things become serious, though. Alexa said that her experience was “so much harder” because of Carlos’s behavior at the time. She was unable to concentrate and became sidetracked, which stopped her from enjoying her journey to the fullest. She also admitted that she wished she had communicated better at the time, which is probably something that many couples are familiar with.

In the past, Alexa and Carlos both agreed that they would handle the situation much differently now. If they were given another chance, they think it would be “so much more fun” with more maturity and improved communication. One thing is clear, though: even the strong connections can be put to the test in the ballroom, even after the fact that it may also give fame and excitement.
