Actor Zack Morris became extremely popular for his role as Keegan Butcher-Baker on EastEnders. Zack entered the BBC One soap in 2017, and stayed on for five years until his exit in 2022. He played the character for a total episode count of 432. Keegan was introduced as Karen Taylor and Mitch Baker’s son, and Keanu Taylor’s brother on the show. Now, a year after his departure from the soap, Zack Morris has opened up about his decision of exiting.
While chatting with the media, the EastEnders alum admitted that it was not an overnight decision. “I had the backing of my team,” he pointed at his UK as well as US agents and management. “We had a lot of talks about when was the right time,” he admitted to RTE.ie. Having said that, Zack asserted that EastEnders was the perfect training ground for him. Furthermore, he added that he gained a lot of exposure to the industry while working on the show. Be it the long hours on the set or how to accommodate the little changes in the script while filming.
Zack admitted that EastEnders gave him an insiders looks at what an actor’s life feels like. Starting from dealing with the media to being in the limelight. “All that stuff that’s valuable going forward,” he added. Reflecting back to the time he first signed the BBC One soap, Zack said he was only 17 when he got onboard. He reviewed that he was on for five years, and it was a very impressionable time of his life. However, Zack then shared that he loves learning and experiencing new things. Thus, he eventually reached a point where he felt like trying new things as a creative.

“I just want to play cool characters, I want to tell great stories, I want to be involved in cool projects,” the EastEnders alum enthused. Suggesting that when those opportunities arise, he had to go for it! But to be able to do that, he “needed permission to leave EastEnders.” Furthermore, he gave the BBC One soap due credit by insisting that he would never have gotten the said opportunities if EastEnders hadn’t happened. Zack also added that every single person who is part of the soap’s team is incredibly talented.
Zack feels like he made the right decision at the right time and is extremely grateful for his journey on EastEnders.
