The one thing that has always made Ian Beale’s life and relationships volatile on EastEnders is the element of secrecy. Almost every relationship he has had on the BBC One soap, there was at least one explosive secret brewing under the surface, just waiting to explode! He had a fair share of them with Cindy back in the day, that resulted in her trying to kill him. Then, he had another round of secrets with Sharon. Who too, tried to slow poison him to death.
One would expect that after so many close calls, Ian would learn to be more honest in his relationships on EastEnders. But, nope! He is doing it all over again. The BBC One soap caused a storm when it revealed Cindy Beale alive under the name of Rose Knight. Later, it was revealed that she had been living in France. And for the last couple of years, she had been living there with Ian, her former husband. While, her other husband, George Knight, lived in Walford with their daughters, Anna and Gina.
In the recent episodes, Cindy followed her son Peter back to Walford on EastEnders. Despite the fact that Ian had been bending over backwards, trying to stop her from returning to ground zero. Ar first, it felt like he just didn’t want to return home, as he was happy with Cindy and Peter in France. However, it soon became clear that wasn’t the case. In fact, he had been trying to stop Cindy from returning because he knew George now lived in Walford.
In the August 31, 2023, episode, Cindy too, had to face the startling truth about Ian’s secrets. After Gina overdosed, and cited Cindy’s return as the reason, the hapless mother was devastated. Later, Ian had to confess that he knew George had moved in with his family at The Vic. Furthermore, he also admitted to deleting Anna’s text from Cindy’s phone. She was furious to learn the truth and retaliated that Ian still didn’t trust her.
She then flatly ordered Ian to find a way to make them stay in Walford on EastEnders. This prompted Ian to ask him mum to let them move in. However, when Kathy refused, he told her that he and Cindy will move in tomorrow. Moreover, he made it clear that if she was averse to the idea, she had until the next day to leave. He then also gave his sons, Bobby and Peter, the ultimatum to either stand with him or against him. As of now, it seems like Ian is trying to take back as much control a she can. But can he really stay strong? Especially now that Cindy is so furious with him. Could that change their dynamics?
