Shona McGarty has spent a large part of her life being part of BBC’s superhit soap – EastEnders. However, as the saying goes – “all good things must come to an end,” so must her run as Whitney Dean. Earlier this year, she took the soap’s fanbase by storm when she revealed that she is exiting. Shona has successfully portrayed Whitney for over 15 years, and this decision has certainly not been an easy one. Neither for the actress, nor for the viewers.
However, she insists that it is time for her to spread her wings and fly out. Currently, on EastEnders, she and partner-Zack decided to foster a little boy, after they tragically lost Peach. Unfortunately, the fostering situation did not go as hoped, an little Ashton is being sent to another foster home. Now, the latest spoilers reveal that Whitney will take a huge life changing decision. Which very well could take her away from Walford. Thus, facilitating Shona’s exit from the BBC One soap.
What Lies Ahead For Shona After EastEnders
Speaking to Inside Soap, Shona revealed that it will be the end of an Era, leaving EastEnders. The fan favourite actress affirmed that she has thoroughly loved her time on the soap as Whitney. Furthermore, she mused that Whitney has gone through a lot in Walford and really needs a break. Then, providing some respite to her fans, Shona pointed that the door is always open and she could return to the soap at a later point.
Although, as of now, she wants to concentrate on other ventures and pursuits outside of EastEnders. Speaking of doing other things, Shona recently became part of a retelling of The Beauty and The Beast, during this panto season at the Orchard Theatre. However, unfortunately, she took ill and had to miss her performance on December 15-16, 2023. Shona took to her official Instagram account to share the update with her fans.
“I’ve been feeling rough recently, as you know, and unfortunately have come down with the worst cold n flu symptoms and a really sore throat,” the EastEnders star wrote. Furthermore, Shona announced that she is gutted due to the development and also apologized to everyone who is affected by her not being able to perform.
We send Shona McGarty all our love and prayer and hope she recovers soon.
