It was announced back in August that Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden is shooting his last scenes. His portrayal of David Metcalfe has had a lasting impact on Emmerdale fans. His 17-year journey on the show has been nothing but an example of versatility. David was one of the characters with whom not only fans related but also loved having around.
However, the sad day is almost here. Ever since Matthew’s exit was announced, Emmerdale fans have been speculating a number of exit storylines. But now, it seems like it would be devastating for David and his fans both. David is going to exit the village with a broken heart. David’s Sad Exit After 17 Years
Following the footsteps of his wife, Matthew Wolfenden is all set to exit the show. His former co-star and wife, Charley Webb, also left the soap back in 2021. Since Matthew was spotted shooting the last scenes, Emmerdale fans have been curious about his exit storyline. Now, it seems like he is going to have a sad ending. As he discovers about Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) and Jacob’s (Joe-Warren Plant) relationship, he will surely be heartbroken.
David and Victoria broke up last year, but recently, David realized that he is still in love with her and wants to get together. While Jacob acknowledged his feelings for Victoria, too. In the previous episodes, David sends Jacob to Abby (David’s online date) in order to tell her he won’t be able to make it to a second date. Meanwhile, seeing Jacob with another woman, Victoria gets jealous. When Abby leaves, Victoria confesses her feelings, and the two of them share a kiss.
For now, they have decided to keep it a secret from everyone. Amid Victoria and Jacob blooming romance and getting serious, David is trying his best to win Victoria back. So, it looks like, sadly, he is going to have worse heartbreak after knowing that his ex is dating one of his own. Eventually, this whole situation will make him leave the village with a heavy heart.
Emmerdale Star Matthew Wolfenden Gets Emotional, Said It Was Hard To Say Goodbye
Recently, Matthew Wolfenden joined the Loose Women panel, where he opened up about leaving Emmerdale after 17 years. While speaking, he got emotional and choked a few times. According to reports, Matthew feels ready for a change. Not much is out there for him, as he wasn’t getting any major storyline anyway.
In the panel, Coleen Nolan asked the Emmerdale star if it’s been hard for him to say goodbye. While replying to that, Matthew got emotional and expressed, “It was, it was only two weeks ago, and it was so emotional to say goodbye to particularly Joe Warren, who plays Jacob. He added that Joe has grown up with him. He has seen him going through some of the tough times since he started at seven, and now he is 21. Mentioning that it’s very evident in his voice that it’s really emotional, he called Jacob his fourth son.
When asked about his comeback, he said, “There’s always a chance [I could be killed off]… you never know what is going to happen, but David doesn’t die. There is always a chance, though, to go back, who knows.” He shared that he loves it there. It’s more like a family, and all his best mates are there. The cast, the crew… So, never say never.
