The steam around Nikolas’s exit storyline was building around for quite some time on General Hospital. We knew Marcus Coloma was out of the ABC soap, and actor Adam Huss was only filling in temporarily. So it was inevitable that Nik’s time on the screen was coming to an end. There were many speculations regarding how his exit would be written in to the story. Many believed that Nik would skip town to avoid facing jail time for Esme’s kidnapping. However, our jaws dropped when Ava hit Nik over the head in the previous episode of General Hospital. And Nik fell to his DEATH. Yup! It looks that Nik has died of the fatal blow to his head. But has he? Can GH really just kill Nikolas Cassadine off like that?
While we do not doubt General Hospital’s ability to kill off a significant character, we still are finding it hard to believe. Nikolas is a Cassadine, and that bloodline just doesn’t seem the kind to fade off so easily. Moreover, there are so many loose ends that still need tying up. Nik and Spencer’s relationship is on the rocks, and there was absolutely no closure. Esme is an amnesiac at the moment, but at some point, her memory will return, and she will recall that Nik kept her captive. What would happen then? The whole long-stretched story of her captivity and escape becomes inconsequential if Nik is not there to bare the brunt!
On the other hand, there is also the matter of fan sentiment! Ever since Marcus Coloma had stepped into the role of Nikolas Cassadine, the General Hospital fans became divided. Moreover, when Adam Huss started to fill in as Nik, it further divided the fans. Many fans were taken by Adam’s stellar portrayal of Nik. While many others missed Marcus and wanted him back. However, there is this huge chunk of General Hospital fandom that believes the OG Nik to be the only Dark Prince. Actor Tyler Christopher was the original Nikolas Cassadine.
It is interesting to note that not too long ago, Tyler had mentioned in his Instagram stories that he would love to return to General Hospital as Nikolas. So if the makers decide to raise Nik back from the dead, they could bring him back in the form of Tyler Christopher. That would also open doors for another intriguing storyline. General Hospital stars Tyler, and Rebecca Herbst (Liz) are great friends off the screen, and they were such an iconic couple back in the day when Tyler played Nik. Now that Ava and Nik are certainly done and dusted, he could finally get back with Liz if he returns!
