Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2: Renewed? Will It Adapt The Shibuya Incident Arc? Release Date

The first season of Jujutsu Kaisen is yet to conclude, but the fans already started wondering about Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2. The anime series stunned everyone and gained a lot of popularity this year. As a result, the fans are getting desperate to see more of it even before its end. Although, they are pretty sad that they won’t be able to see more episodes of it after two weeks.

Jujutsu Kaisen is a dark fantasy supernatural anime series. It is the remake of the dark fantasy manga series of the same name by Gege Akutami. MAPPA adapted this manga into an anime series that made its debut on October 3, 2020. The fans already saw 22 episodes of the show, and only two more are left. The first season finale of the anime will air on March 26, 2021. So, will the fans see the second season of the anime after its conclusion? Here is everything to know.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2

Critical Reception Of The Debut Season!

The first season of the anime series is yet to end, but it already became a blockbuster. At the 2021 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, The debut season JJK won the award of “Anime of the Year.” Not only this, Ryomen Sukuna won the award of the “Best Antagonist,” and Lost in Paradise won the award for the “Best Ending Sequence.” So far, the show has received a great response from every single viewer. The critics also said that the show has all the elements for being a perfect anime series. Plus, the execution by MAPPA is so brilliant that it turns to be the cherry on the cake.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2: Renewal Status!

The makers or the production company is yet to renew the second season of JJK officially. However, the fans don’t have to worry because, at this moment, the sequel of the anime series is inevitable. As we mentioned above, JJK was Anime of the Year, and its manga is one of the best-selling series as it already had more than 36 million copies in circulation by March 2021.

Two more episodes of the anime are yet to release. Therefore, it is likely that the makers or MAPPA will announce Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 after the release of its first season finale. The anime is quite popular and was the second most-viewed show of 2020. So, it would be a foolish decision for the makers to cancel the show for its second season as it will also cause a lot of backlash from the fans who are desperately waiting to see the major arcs getting animated.

Busy Schedule Of MAPPA!

MAPPA emerged as one of the best animation studios last year. The studio worked on the shows like Attack On Titan Season 4 and Jujutsu Kaisen and delivered a lot of memorable moments to the fans within a very short span of time. Except for these two shows, the animation studio already announced the release date for Zombie Land: Saga Revenge and Heion Sedai no Idaten-tachi. Not only that, but they also announced Re-Main and the most-awaited anime adaptation of The Chainsawman for 2021 as well. So it is likely that the studio won’t be able to work on Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 this year because of its tight schedule.

Is There Enough Source Material For Another Season?

The first season of JJK already adapted 62 chapters of the manga series. And the next two episodes will likely adapt four chapters. So, the fans can expect the first season of the anime to end near the 65th or 66th chapter of the manga series. The most recent chapter of the manga series was Chapter 141. Therefore MAPPA will likely have more than 70 chapters in order to create Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2. These chapters are more than enough for a single season. The inaugural season of the anime series didn’t adapt the Volume 0. So, the makers can also use it in the second season before adapting the chapters from the Shibuya Incident arc.

Will Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Adapt The Shibuya Incident Arc?

If you’re a manga reader and closely follow the manga of Jujutsu Kaisen, then you must already know what the Shibuya Incident Arc is and how great it is. It is the longest and the best arc of the series so far, which has a total of 58 chapters. The makers can easily adapt this entire arc in a 24-episode season. To promote this arc, the makers recently set up several ads at the Shibuya station in Japan, and it is definitely a treat for the eyes.

Geto’s ultimate plan for October 31 that he recently revealed in Episode 21 of the anime, will take place in this arc. Since the anime has other short arcs and Volume 0 before the Shibuya Incident Arc. Therefore it is likely that the fans won’t see this arc in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2. There are slight chances that they might see its beginning in the last few episodes of the second season to set up a cliffhanger.

What Will Happen Next?

In the second season of the anime, the fans will most likely get to know about the past stories of Gojo Satoru and Suguru Geto. Both of them used to be friends, but their friendship ended tragically. They went on a mission to escort Riko Amanai. However, things got complicated after the arrival of Megumi Fushoguro’s father, Toji Fushiguro, aka ‘Sorcerer Killer.’

Toji Fushiguro manages to overwhelm the Sorcerers and kill Riko. In the resulting battle, Toji overpowers Geto and almost kills Gojo by hitting him in the throat and cutting him several times. However, Gojo’s near-death encounter backed him and forced him to master his reverse technique. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will show how Gojo Satoru went on to become the strongest Jujutsu sorcerer.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2: Release Date

As we mentioned above, MAPPA is busy with several projects this year, so it won’t be able to begin the production of JJK’s second season this year. Therefore it is likely that the fans have to wait at least one and a half year to watch the second season. They can expect Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 to release in the last quarter of 2022.
