In a disturbing case of celebrity stalking, Brazilian national Myra Carvalho, 35, was sentenced to 14 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to stalking singer Harry Styles a year ago. Carvalho sent approximately 8,000 cards, including wedding invitations, to Styles over a span of less than a month. Two of these were hand-delivered to his residence, while the rest were sent online.
The sentencing took place at Harrow Crown Court, sitting at Hendon Magistrates’ Court in London. In addition to the prison term, Carvalho received a 10-year restraining order prohibiting her from contacting Styles directly or indirectly, attending any of his performances, or entering a specified area in northwest London. She was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £134.
Carvalho had been residing in a backpacker hostel in Kensington and Chelsea, southwest London, since December. Her family was reportedly unaware of her travel to the UK. During court proceedings, her barrister disclosed that a doctor in Brazil suspected Carvalho was experiencing a manic episode, raising questions about her mental health at the time of the offenses.
This incident is not the first time Styles has faced harassment from a stalker. In 2019, he dealt with Pablo Tarazaga-Orero, a homeless man who camped outside his home and followed him to local establishments. The encounters left Styles feeling unsafe, prompting him to hire a night guard and enhance his home security.
The court’s decision underscores the serious consequences of obsessive behavior and the importance of legal protections for individuals facing harassment. Stay tuned to TVSeasonspoilers for more updates and news.
