Prince William recently had a heart warming visit to St. Michael’s Church of England High School in Sandwell. Firstly, the royal apologised for Princess Kate’s absence, saying she would’ve loved it. He met with some inspiring kids at the school, but let’s tell you where it all started. A 12-year-old boy named Freddie impressed William with his well-articulated letter last year. So, the royal finally paid him a visit, which was long due. Read on to know all about it!
Prince William Talks About Mental Health
Prince William praised Freddie for his well-written letter, promising he would show up. The letter read, “I am a representative of the Matrix Project, which shines a spotlight on male mental health.” Moreover, the boy urged the prince of Wales to support their campaign #AmIManlyEnough. It aims to combat the stigma that “girls cry and boys get mad”. Freddie also invited him to their campaign event on World Mental Health Day.
Prince William couldn’t make it back then and only wished the lad to keep up the good work. However, the future king made sure to drop by this time around. Furthermore, Will made everyone crack up with Charlotte’s favourite ‘dad joke.’ Later, he joined a session with students speaking about male mental health. After the visit, Prince William took to X/Twitter and commended the inspiring project along with Freddie and his group.
“Well done to Freddie and friends for their incredible efforts in nurturing their emotional wellbeing.” On another note, Freddie was taken aback by Will’s surprise visit but admitted to never doubting the possibility. He was so sure due to William’s dedication to mental health awareness. Additionally, Freddie revealed that the session saw a healthy discussion on work, Will’s own experiences, and his commitment to tackling these issues.
At school, the royal left with thoughtful gifts for Kate, including Lego sunflowers and seeds. He really admired the gift, for it symbolises happiness and positivity.
William Continues Philanthropy While Kate Recuperates
The visit gives a nod to Prince William and Kate’s ongoing efforts to end the taboo surrounding mental health. The couple has previously supported various organisations that provide mental health support. During the pandemic, they created initiatives like ‘Our Frontline’ to celebrate NHS staff and emergency workers. In addition, Prince William had also critiqued the monarchy’s ‘stiff upper lip’ tradition in 2018.
Also, he and Kate shared a touching Anzac Day message honouring Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in military ops. We know that Kate’s cancer announcement had earlier prompted William to hit the pause and focus more on family duties. Subsequently, Will spent quality time with his family and only recently emerged back to serve the nation.
