TLC Unexpected fandom might remember Max Schenzel from Season 2 and 3 of the hit series. He appeared on those seasons with his baby mama, Chloe. They were once fan favorites, but the dark times took over. It was a dark phase in both teenagers’ lives. Max had turned to drugs.
This caused significant strain in their relationship, leading to a heartbreaking breakup. Chloe kept Ava, their daughter, away from Max and his dad, Todd. All because of Max’s shortcomings, his dad had to stay away from his own granddaughter. It had troubled him greatly. Well, now, he cannot see his granddaughter anymore as he has succumbed to his death after a tumultuous battle with cancer.

Once TLC Unexpected has thoroughly documented the plight between Chloe and Max’s families. Max’s drug abuse had crossed certain boundaries. Moreover, due to the influence, he has had many run-ins with the law. This gave rise to frequent fights between the teen couple. Chloe and her family systematically cut Max and Todd out of their lives. They even kept Ava from her.
Now, Chloe’s problems with Max are understandable. However, no one saw any reason why Chloe and her family were actively snubbing Todd out of his own granddaughter’s life. The caring grandfather had been nothing but accepting and kept his distance, as asked. Although he was heartbroken, he still showed up. Even in his last days, he had little contact with Ava.
TLC Unexpected star, Max Schenzel, had ventured down the wrong path. However, he sometimes had his father, Todd Schenzel, to guide him back and show him the reality. Needless to say, the fandom liked Todd sometimes when he was not enabling his son. Although Todd had his quirks, he had actually cared deeply for his granddaughter.
The TLC Unexpected grandfather had been battling brain cancer for quite some time now. Unfortunately, he passed away after his raging battle with cancer. Max took to his social media to make the heartbreaking announcement. “Gone too soon. You will be missed dearly. I will walk this path knowing you are looking down on me. Time to make you even more proud,” he wrote.
Moreover, the reality TV star also shared a collage of photos of himself and his father on his story as a tribute. When the news of the diagnosis hit the family hard, they took a last-minute trip to Sedona. That trip was very memorable for the father and son. “This season is heavy… but it’s also teaching me what really matters — time, love, and being there for the people who matter most,” he added.
Todd Schenzel succumbed to cancer at the age of 61. Back in March, Max had shared heartbreaking health updates on his father. He had then suffered a brain stroke. Therefore, the doctors had admitted him to the ICU. It was then that they found out that the brain tumor was inoperable. For all the latest reality TV updates, stay tuned to TV Season & Spoilers.
