Tracker has become one of CBS’s biggest hits, blending intense survival drama with emotional depth and gripping mysteries. Led by Justin Hartley, the show follows Colter Shaw, a lone-wolf survivalist who tracks missing people for a reward. After two wildly successful seasons and a cliffhanger-filled finale, fans are eager to know what lies ahead in Tracker Season 3. Here’s everything we know so far — including returning cast, plot predictions, where to stream, and a full breakdown of that jaw-dropping Season 2 ending.

Tracker Season 3 Release Date Speculation

While CBS hasn’t set an exact release date yet, Tracker Season 3 is expected to premiere during the 2025–2026 TV season. The network confirmed that it will continue airing on Sunday nights at 8 p.m. ET, maintaining its prime slot after a hugely successful second season.

Given that Season 2 just wrapped in May 2025, viewers should expect a new premiere in early to mid-2026, especially if the show follows a similar timeline as previous years.

Who’s Returning in the Tracker Season 3 Cast?

Justin Hartley will once again lead the series as Colter Shaw, the rugged, skilled survivalist who tracks down missing people across the country. In a video posted on Instagram, Hartley confirmed the Season 3 pickup and hinted at 18–22 new episodes.

While CBS hasn’t confirmed the entire cast, the following characters are expected to return:

  • Abby McEnany as Velma Bruin, Colter’s handler
  • Eric Graise as Bobby Exley, the team’s hacker
  • Fiona Rene as Reenie Greene, attorney and team ally
  • Chris Lee as Randy, Bobby’s cousin and tech support
  • Jensen Ackles as Russell Shaw, Colter’s brother
  • Sofia Pernas as Billie Matalon, a love interest and partner
  • Floriana Lima as Camille Picket
  • Brent Sexton, Pej Vahdat, and Melissa Roxburgh are among the returning guest stars
  • Wendy Crewson as Mary Shaw, Colter’s mother

However, not all characters are guaranteed to return. Robin Weigert’s character, Teddi, was written out early in Season 2. Executive producer Elwood Reid confirmed the team dynamic will evolve in Season 3.

What Will Tracker Season 3 Be About?

Season 3 will pick up right where the explosive finale left off. Colter solved one of his biggest cases — the death of his father, Ashton Shaw — but new questions have emerged. While Otto Waldron confessed to pushing Ashton off a cliff, his motives remain cloudy. Shockingly, he claimed that Mary Shaw, Colter’s mother, asked him to do it.

That revelation sets up a complex emotional arc for Colter as he digs deeper into his family’s dark past. Meanwhile, a disconnected phone number found in Ashton’s box points to David Pearson, a mysterious scientist who died the same year as Ashton — another thread Season 3 is expected to pull.

Alongside the serialized family mystery, the show will continue its procedural format, following Colter as he takes on dangerous cases involving missing persons, criminal conspiracies, and life-threatening rescues.

Hartley teased a potential storyline where Colter becomes the hunted: “It would be interesting to see him set up, using his survival skills to run from the law.”

Will There Be Major Changes in Tracker Season 3?

Yes. Executive producer Elwood Reid confirmed that Season 3 will bring team restructuring and shift away from the “call-a-friend” formula. Justin Hartley is pushing for stories that challenge Colter both physically and emotionally, reminding fans that the character is mortal. “There’s a real risk in what he does,” Hartley said. “He’s not a superhero. He can die.” Expect returning guest characters, evolving team dynamics, and even the potential for a near-death storyline that puts Colter’s skills to the ultimate test.

Tracker Season 2 Ending Explained: Who Killed Ashton Shaw?

The long-standing mystery of Colter’s father’s death was finally answered — at least in part — in the final episode of Season 2, titled “Echo Ridge.”

Colter took on a case about a missing diner owner that brought him back to his hometown. But the investigation uncovered a horrifying child trafficking ring led by Carl Murphy. The real shock came when Colter found one of his father’s signature carvings in Carl’s trailer. This clue led him to Otto Waldron, Carl’s uncle and a former county linesman who used to interact with the Shaw family while setting up power lines.

When Colter confronted Otto, he admitted that he had known Ashton and worked with him on building a wind turbine. They had gotten along “okay,” but Otto eventually revealed that he pushed Ashton off the cliff, confirming that Colter’s father’s death was no accident. For years, Colter believed his brother Russell had done it — a belief that haunted both men. Russell was finally cleared of suspicion.

But that wasn’t the end. In a chilling twist, Otto claimed he didn’t act alone. He alleged that Mary Shaw—Colter’s mother — had asked him for help, implying she may have orchestrated her husband’s murder. The episode ended with this revelation fading to black, leaving audiences with more questions than answers.

What Makes Tracker a Hit?

Since its launch, Tracker has consistently dominated viewership charts. It quickly became the most-watched broadcast series in 2024–25, averaging 10.84 million viewers per episode. Its combination of mystery, emotional character work, and guest star power makes it one of CBS’s biggest success stories — often compared to the legacy of shows like NCIS and The Mentalist.

Where to Watch Tracker

Viewers in the U.S. can catch up on Tracker Seasons 1 and 2 by streaming all episodes on Paramount+, while select reruns and live broadcasts are also available on CBS. For international audiences, the series is available in some regions through Disney+. Once Tracker Season 3 premieres, new episodes will air weekly on CBS and will be available to stream the following day on Paramount+.

Tracker Season 3 is shaping up to be the most intense and emotional chapter yet. With new enemies, shifting alliances, and unanswered questions about the Shaw family’s dark past, Colter’s next journey will push him to the edge — and possibly beyond it. With a bigger episode count, a fresh team dynamic, and deeper character arcs, fans can expect the stakes to rise higher than ever before. Stay tuned to TVSeasonspoilers for more updates and news.
