History Channel

Vikings Season 7: The remaining episodes of the sixth season of Vikings released today, and we would say, What a show. For the first time, viewers got to binge-watch the episodes all at once instead of waiting for episodes weekly. The slow-burning finale has, we would say, been quite satisfying for all the fans who have been waiting for new episodes for almost a year.

These ten episodes were everything we could have asked for. From massive battle scenes to the return of our favorite characters, sea dragons, unprecedented twists, drugs, death, and even witchcraft, the show had everything. Creator Michael Hirst has quite succeeded in pulling off the best conclusion to the historical drama. With that said, we are not yet ready to bid goodbye to our much-loved Vikings series. Would we get more? Will there be Vikings Season 7? Here is everything to know

Will Vikings Season 7 Happen?

Unfortunately, Vikings Season 7 will never happen. The show has come to an end after six seasons that just concluded. The show did feel longer than six seasons. Recently in an interview with Gamespot, Michael Hirst says that they have had a fantastic run with Vikings. He says that he knew that in the global sense, where he ultimately wanted to go, it was very satisfactory for him. When they came to know that this was going to be the last season of the show, he felt like he had a lot of things he wanted to say about Vikings.

Hirst explains that when he started off, and he was so fascinated by the culture of the beliefs, he wanted to overturn these prejudices and clichés. Eventually, he fell in love with these major characters. The creator reveals that often his days and night for seven years were filled with Vikings. He would write until 12 o’clock. Hirst would go to Ireland every week. He had to conclude the saga.

What’s Next?

While there won’t be a Vikings Season 7, this is not it. In fact, Netflix has already ordered a spiritual successor to the series. Netflix is coming up with a spin-off series of Vikings that will be called Vikings: Valhalla. This spin-off series will be set about 100 years after what happened in the original Viking age that draws it very close to the Kingdom of England standing against the Scandinavian raiders. After King Edward the confessor died, three lords claimed the English throne and changed the future of England forever.

Jeb Stuart, who is well known for his works like The Fugitive (1933), Die Hard (1988), and The Liberator, is coming on-board for Vikings: Valhalla. Stuart will act as the writer and creator of the upcoming season.

The latest reports about Vikings: Valhalla says that the team has already started working on the show earlier this year. However, it was then halted because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately, the team resumed production in July 2020, and in August 2020, the team was shooting in Ireland. Then in November 2020, it was confirmed that Vikings: Valhalla has completed productions. There is no official update on when the show would release, but given that the production is completed, we can expect an early 2021 release date.
