The brand-new Korean show is receiving tons of praise upon its release on Netflix. Its creepy cliffhanger sent chills down the spines of its viewers. As of now, all we can think about is whether Oh Jisoo and Bae Gyu-Ri will be back with Extracurricular Season 2 or not. Well, as per the looks, the future of this dark show seems pretty bright. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
Extracurricular debuted on Netflix with ten episodes back on April 29, 2020. Within a few days, the series became the talk of the town for its eerie and unique storyline. The character-driven drama is based in a world with serious criminal activities like sex trafficking, school bullying, violence, and blackmail. In only a few days, the show managed to grab the attention of millions of Netflix subscribers. As of now, it has become one of the best Korean shows on the streaming platform.
The story of the show centers around a high school kid Oh Ji Soo who aspires to go to college but has no financial support from his parents. In order to fulfill his ambition and pay for his tuition, he runs an illegal and unethical business that ruins the lives of a lot of people.
Extracurricular Season 2: Netflix Renewal
It is currently too early to demand a renewal from the popular streamer. Netflix usually takes at least a month to greenlight most of its famed shows. Hence, fans may have to wait for a couple of weeks to know about the future of their favorite series. Fortunately, based on its performance, Extracurricular Season 2 is likely to get the green flag anytime soon. As of now, fans must all remain hopeful.
However, as per Netflix’s history, Korean shows rarely get sequels. In fact, highly-popular series like Itaewon Class and Crash Landing On You are yet to get a green light. Both these shows have large fanbases that have signed plenty of petitions demanding for more seasons. Hence, it won’t be easy for Extracurricular Season 2 to get a renewal unless it performs exceptionally well.
Yet, as compared to other K-dramas, Extracurricular is only produced for Netflix and follows its format. Most Korean shows have 16 episodes with a definite ending, whereas, the new show consists of only ten episodes that end with a cliffhanger. This hints that the creators might be planning to continue the story in the future.
Lead Actor Kim Dong Hee Talks About Season 2
The SKY-Castle and Itaewon Class ac tor Kim Dong Hee received plenty of positive reviews for his brilliant performance on Extracurricular. In an interview with Soompi, he talked about his experience working with series director Kim Jin-Min and writer Jin Han-Sae and the possibilities of a sequel. The actor is equally excited for Extracurricular Season 2 and wants to question the writer himself. In fact, Kim Dong Hee also discussed what could happen next in the story. Well, fans will still have to wait until the creators make it official.
What Will Happen In The New Season?
Are Oh Jisoo & Bae Gyu Ri alive?
There can be different perceptions of Season 1’s ending for every viewer. While some believe that both the lead characters have run away, others say that they could’ve gotten arrested soon after. Well, as per the creators, Oh Jisoo and Bae Gyu Ri are currently on the run. However, what happens next is yet to be decided. Actor Kim Dong Hee alongside thousands of fans, believes that Oji and Gyu Ri could currently be in Sydney.
The leading couple might restart their business and get into a bigger mess in Extracurricular Season 2. There’s also a chance that one of them might betray the other. However, it won’t be easy to run the business now that the police have recognized both of them. Even if they’re in Sydney, Oji and Baeggyul will have to hide for survival. On the other hand, in order to start the business, they’ll have to find a replacement for Mr. Lee, which can be disturbing for a lot of fans
