Days of Our Lives: A recent report by Soap Opera Digest suggests that yet another star from the land of Salem is going away. This time it is actress Melissa Reeves who plays the character of Jennifer Horton on the soap opera. She has been a part of the show since 1985. Her character Jennifer Horton is the daughter of Bill and Laura Horton and also an important member of the Horton family. Why Is Melissa Reeves Leaving Days of Our Lives?
The 53-year-old actress was recently criticized by many for her support to Anti-Black social media posts by a firebrand Candace Owens. This act did not only gave her backlash from the fans, but the thing did not go down nicely with her Days of Our Lives co-stars Martha Madison and Linsey Godfrey. One of Reeves’ supporters tried to make a point that Reeves was entitled to her opinion. She was slammed by Godfrey on social media. Godfrey tweeted, saying that supporting a company that donates money to gay conversion and is anti-LGBTQ is not okay. Not supporting BLM is not okay. There is no difference of opinions when it comes to racism, transphobia, homophobia, or xenophobia.
However, it doesn’t look like this is the reason Melissa is leaving the show. Reports reveal that Melissa is going away temporarily. She commutes from Tennessee to Los Angeles for shooting the soap opera. Now, since it is so unsafe to go out, she has decided to come back to California, especially in these conditions. Hence, she is dropping out of the show. Melissa Reeves became a grandmother as her daughter recently welcomed a new addition. To avoid any sort of risks because of the commute, Melissa has dropped out of Days of Our Lives.
Has She Been Replaced?
Yes. Emmy winning veteran actor Cady McClain will be replacing Melissa Reeves for the time she is gone. The actress is well known for her part as Dixie Cooney Martin in the show All My Children. She isn’t even new in stepping in shoes of other actors. In the past, she has overtaken roles like that of Rosanna Cabot on As The World Turns for Yvonne Perry. Not just her, she has also stepped into Cynthia Watros’s shoes as Kelly Andrews in The Young and the Restless.
