The official announcement about the renewal came on August 14, 2018, Whilst the first season was still airing.

Castle Rock Season 2 Will Focus On King’s ‘Misery’
According to recent news, the second season will focus on Stephen King’s 1987 psychological horror novel “Misery.” The story revolves around a nurse named Annie Wilkes. She had some deadly obsession for a romance novelist, Paul Sheldon. Moreover, Castle Rock Season 2 will also feature a feud between two warring enemies.
Since the series is an anthology, each season follows a different storyline. However, the mainframe house for the series will remain Castle Rock only, a small town of Maine. Castle Rock had always featured in Stephen King’s prominent works like Cujo, The Dark Half, IT, The Shawshank Redemption and lots more. Castle Rock Season 2 will also unite King’s some of the most epic and loved stories and characters.
The mid-credit scenes of Season one’s finale saw a glimpse of The Shining. It is one of the most classic works of Stephen King. Therefore, the second season of Castle Rock may feature some plot-line related to The Shining.
The co-creator Sam Shaw discussed the plot of Castle Rock at Comic-Con. He stated that they plan to approach an unwritten Stephen King’s novel approach for each season. Dustin also shared that each season is going to be its own, self-contained story from the beginning to the end.
Who All Are Joining Castle Rock Season 2 Cast?
Lizzy Caplan will star in the next season as Annie Wilkes, the psychotic nurse. The show will also feature some of the biggest stars of the industry. Elsie Fisher (Eight Grade breakout) will feature as Joy, Annie’s home-schooled teenage daughter.
Moreover, Yusra Warsama from Call the Midwife will play Dr. Nadia Omar. He is a Harvard-trained Somali medical director in Jerusalem’s Lot. And Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips) will join the series as Abdi Omar, Nadia’s older brother. He is the one who will stand for building a Somali community center in Maine.

The Shawshank Redemption Star is Back
After working for The Shawshank Redemption, Tim Robbins is back again to work for the King’s fantasy world. He will play Reginald ‘Pop’ Merrill. This character is taken from King’s novella The Sun Dog from his 1990 Four Past Midnight collection. In Castle Rock, Pop is dying from cancer, but is in retribution with his family.
Garrett Hedlund (Triple Frontier) will play John ‘Ace’ Merrill. He is a bully who is taking over his uncle Pop’s business. Furthermore, Matthew Alan (13 Reasons Why) will join the second season as Chris Merrill. Chris is Ace’s brother who’s struggling to keep the peace.
Castle Rock Season 2: Production Was To Begin in March
According to Production Weekly, the production work of Castle Rock Season 2 is likely to begin in March 2019. The show will return to Central Massachusetts again to film the second season. However, the March is about to end, there has not been any news from the studio yet.
Castle Rock Season 2 Release Date
The series is set to create King universe, diverse, yet interconnected, similar to Marvel Universe. There is no word about the filming of Castle Rock Season 2 yet. The first season of Castle Rock premiered in July 2018. Therefore, the second season is likely to release in the latter half of 2019. Hulu will exclusively air the second season, as the series is the biggest hit of the streaming service.
