His Dark Materials came in as a new type of fantasy drama of BBC One and HBO. After its massive success with the debut run itself, fans are very much excited for its next installment, His Dark Materials Season 2. Will James McAvoy Return For His Dark Materials Season 2?
The upcoming second season of His Dark Materials will acquire the second book of the series, The Subtle Knife. And according to that, McAvoy’s character Lord Asriel will be absent in the sequel. However, screenwriter Jack Thorne is finding his way to keep the character included in the storyline.
In this context, James McAvoy made a statement to Radiotimes that he is still waiting to read the plot. ” it had better be good because the book’s perfect as it is, so if they’re going to thrust me into it it had better be worth it. Fingers crossed it’ll warrant it.”
Cast Returning For His Dark Materials Season 2
The fans will be immensely happy with McAvoy’s return as Lord Asriel for the second season as well. Meanwhile, the leads of the show will surely return for the second season. The list includes Logan’s Dafne Keen as Lyra Belacqua. Luther’s Ruth Wilson as Mrs Coulter, Lin Manuel-Miranda as aeronaut Scoresby. Some reappearances of Ruta Gedmintas as Serafina Pekkala and Joe Tandberg and Helen McCrory as the voice of armoured bear Iorek Byrnison and Lord Asriel’s demon Stelmaria will also take place.
Along with the lead stars, season 2 will also have some new faces. Newcomer Amir Wilson has joined the second season as Lyra’s new BFF Will Parry. And Fleabag star Andrew Scott will return as Will’s father, Colonel John Parry/ Jopari.
His Dark Materials Season 2: Plot Details
The second season of His Dark Materials will cover the second book of Pullman’s trilogy, titled The Subtle Knife. As per that, Lyra will continue her investigation into the Dark for his father. She’ll explore some new strands of the world along with her new companion Will Parry. Meanwhile, Lee Scoresby needs to track down the mysterious Grumman in his balloon. And therefore, Miranda had to be separated from his on-set friend Dafne.
Season 2 will also feature Cittagazze. This is a city in a parallel universe haunted by soul-eating creatures called Spectres. It is built in its entirety on the lots of Bad Wolf studios in Cardiff. Although, the plot for the second season had already been but in the first season itself.

Some of the stars of the show completed their filming work for the second season by September 2019. And this happened even before the premiere of its debut season on BBC One and HBO. The first season of His Dark Materials debuted in November 2019. Therefore, the second season of the show will also likely premiere at the same time next year. Although as the team of the show is working, Season 2 of His Dark Materials will likely premiere soon either.
