It’s been a while since the second season of Netflix’s unique show premiered at our screen. Well, it’s fair to wonder whether Mindhunter Season 3 will ever be renewed or not. The massive streaming platform is infamous for slitting big titles for no reason. Will Mundhunter fall in the trap too? What’s taking so long? Here’s everything to know.
With its debut back in October 2017, Mindhunter hardly took any time to win our hearts. It instantly became one of the finest psychological thrillers, and Netflix is full of pride due to the same. What makes the crime drama unique is its premise being pretty intense and scary with barely any blood and gore at all. Upon its release, it gained much critical acclaim and appreciation from fans.
The story of the series follows a pair of FBI agents in the early days of its BEhavioural Science Unit. In order to create their criminal profiles, Agents Bill Tench and Holden Ford attempt to study murderers with multiple victims. The criminal profiling would eventually help the bureau to catch other serial killers.
Mindhunter Season 3 Renewal: What’s Taking So Long?
We don’t have an official renewal by Netflix, and that makes millions of fans fearful of the show’s fate. The streamer has lately canceled a bunch of high-potential shows. We certainly hope that psychological thriller is not on the list. However, slitting a series as well-performing as Mindhunter could be the straw that broke the glass for many subscribers around the globe.
Besides, show creator Joe Penhall seems to have a five-season plan for the series full of brilliance. However, the future depends upon the performances of the installments. As far as it looks, Season 2 managed to catch a large number of eyeballs. We can only hope for it to be enough to convince the streamer for the renewal.
The second installment took around two years to return. Besides, productions for the season began pretty late too. This scarcely explains the delay in the renewal. Moreover, as of now, the showrunners may be busy in preparing a Mindhunter Season 3 storyline.
What’s Season 3 About?
The plot of the first two seasons focuses on the criminal activities that undergo between the 1970s and 1980s. Agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench study and investigate various serial killers of that time. Hence, it’s likely that Mindhunter Season 3 may now pick up another set of criminals from history. In fact, similar to Season 2 highlighting the Atlanta child murders, the third chapter could focus on other controversial cases. Moreover, as hinted before, we’ll get to see more of Dennis Rader aka BTK Strangler in the upcoming installment.
When Will Holden & Bill Return?
Holden and Bill have just begun working on actual serious cases besides interviewing criminals in prison. The duo may soon get much more cases to solve in Mindhunter Season 3. As of now, we don’t have a date yet. However, like the second installment, the third chapter may not return as soon. Although we can hope for it to back as early as late 2020 or early 2021.
