Pennyworth Season 3: Will Shape The Future Of Batman Origin, Boss Teased Further Details

Epix

Epix’s spy thriller drama Pennyworth has wrapped up its second season back this Sunday, leaving room for the next season, Pennyworth Season 3. Although, it’s not yet revealed if Alfred Pennyworth, Batman’s famous butler, will be back for a Pennyworth Season 3. But, the showrunner Bruno Heller seems hopeful for the third run calling the series to shape Batman’s origin.

Based on the DC comics, Pennyworth delves into the early life of titular character Alfred Pennyworth, a former British SAS soldier who’s setting his security firm in an alternate London. However, during this process, he becomes Raven society’s target, a group concurring to take down the British government. But soon, Alfred joins Thomas Wayne and Martha Kane in the historical war.

Pennyworth Season 3: Is It Renewed For The Next Run?

For now, the network hasn’t renewed Pennyworth Season 3 yet. As for when Pennyworth could get renewed, the renewal announcement for the second season came a month after the first season wrapped. So we can expect the same with the third season as well. Even the show has received a highly positive response on Rotten Tomatoes, so most likely, it would renew. But the second season received mixed reactions noting that it lacks focus.

Showrunner Seems Optimistic For Season 3

In a recent interview, Bruno Heller teased that the second season of Pennyworth has laid the foundation for the third season, which would explore the rapidly changing environment. Bruno added that Pennyworth would create a world that highlight the struggles and contradictions that Batman deals with now. Therefore, the third season would explore the pre-comics world.

So it’s thrilling for them as they can shape the world as they want. Bruno said: “It’s an incredible alternative to DC London, so we can almost do what we like,” but they are aware that whatever they create would directly impact Batman’s world. Though Batman would come much later, the choices certainly shape the future of Bruce Wayne and his crime-fighting world.

Director Danny Cannon Called It Ongoing Series

Back in 2019, Danny said that he views Pennyworth as the series, which can at least run beyond the third season for now. He added that when Bruno first told him about the show set in the fictional world in Britain. He quickly mapped five seasons in his head. Danny said he always believed that this show could at least run to five-season. “It will carry on and keep changing and growing,” said Danny.

Pennyworth Season 3: How It Sets Up The Next Run?

Well, the most recent finale ended with Gulliver Troy sacrificing to save everyone. But when he swallowed the “Stormcloud” weapon just before it explodes, it caused a reaction that gives him superpowers. Meanwhile, Frances Gaunt takes charge when the Raven Union army arrested John Salt. After this, the finale jumps six months forward in time, where Gaunt becomes the new leader of the New Raven Alliance (Raven Union), indicating the war would end.

But in the closing moment, Pennyworth, with his force, joins Troy in the battle. This hints that the ultimate fight might conclude in the third season. Meanwhile, Martha gave birth to a child, which might lead to the debut of infant Bruce. But in the finale, it revealed that it’s a baby girl. Now, the mystery could only resolve in the upcoming season. Thus the third season would indeed solve the loose ends.
