It has been more than a year since Netflix renewed Queen of the South Season 5. The show went into production after the renewal. Creator Reveals Release Date for Season 5
It isn’t a secret that Peter Gadiot, Alice Braga, and Hemky Madera are all back to sets shooting for Queen of the South Season 5. The cast and the crew have been sharing pictures of the set and how they have been following the coronavirus guidelines on their social media. As 2020 ended, the EP of Queen of the South, David T. Friendly updated all the fans with some news about the upcoming season of the show. He says that the year has been dreadful, they must give fans some good news.
Friendly revealed some details about how much they have completed the shooting as well as how many episodes viewers will get to enjoy in the upcoming season. He says that they are halfway through shooting for Queen of South Season 5. Continuing on, he says that their team has made huge sacrifices and with the little luck they have had, they will bring about 10 episodes that will release in 2021.

The excited fans of the show did not sit back. All viewers seem extremely enthusiastic about this news. Replying to Friendly’s news one fan says that Yay , Thankyou! They can’t wait. The fan asked EP if the show would release before the summertime? Another fan says that they are soooo stocked. They thanked Friendly for the show and said that they are waiting for the show.
What Would Happen Next?
Back in August 2019, the creators revealed a short teaser trailer for the upcoming fifth season and that gave us insight on what could be coming up next. The teaser hints that Teresa is going to meet a group of Russians who are determined to see her business’ downfall. Viewers will also find out about what happened to James after he was severely injured. However, a full trailer has not been yet released.
Queen of the South Season 5 will move ahead from New Orleans and will focus on a feud with the Russians. James had warned Teresa that people are coming for her. So, fans will have to wait to know who this new enemy is. So, there is a plenty of actions that we can expect in the upcoming season.
Season 5 will also deal with Russians and probably the DEA. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the showrunner of the series says that James will come in to play a huge part in the fifth season. Co-showrunner, Ben Lobato said that they have decided to get James back in and set him up for the fifth season. The exact release date of the show is not yet out.
