It’s been two long years since we haven’t heard about Russian Doll Season 2. But finally, it is returning with some delighting news. The last season has already upped the ante, and now the high-profile actor Sharlto Copley’s addition has made the fans beyond curious to learn what Russian Doll Season 2 is planning for us.
Russian Doll follows Nadia, who gets trapped in a time loop. Her best friend throws Nadia’s birthday party, where she was invited as the guest honor. However, there, Nadia dies in a car accident but mysteriously returned to life. She soon finds herself back in the bathroom where she was attending the party. All confused, Nadia first didn’t believe in it. But later, scared, Nadia decided to find a way to break the cycle of her own death.
Russian Doll Season 2: Who Will Join The Cast?
Recently, the news came off that District 9 star Sharlto Copley will join the award-winning dramedy Russian Doll. South African actor Copley is the latest addition in the cast who’s known for completely inhabiting the role. Thus, Copley will be an exciting addition to the dramedy. Besides him, the streamer had also announced that Schitt’s Creek star Annie Murphy and Black Hat actress Carolyn Michelle Smith will also join Russian Doll Season 2.
However, their roles have been kept under wraps. Besides, Natasha Lyonne will indeed return as Nadia Vulvokov. Furthermore, back in September 2020, the news surfaced that the new series male lead will introduce who would play Nadia’s love interest. Natasha also envisioned Andre Holland and Oscar Issac’s names to play the hustler/con artist in the upcoming season.
Russian Doll Season 2: Has Production Begun For The Next Season?
Fortunately, filming began in early March 2021 after facing several setbacks due to the ongoing pandemic. Initially, filming was scheduled to start on March 30, 2020. But in the wake of the COVID-19, the filming halted, leading to a long break. However, in February 2021, ProductionWeekly disclosed that Natasha has returned to film the second season.
Filming once again started in New York City, and some behind-the-scenes images show that Nadia would repeat her mistakes in the next run. Natasha is back in her iconic black dress. It was further reported that filming would continue in New York’s East Village under a codename “Black Gumball.”
Russian Doll Season 2: What Will Happen In The Next Season?
As of now, it’s unclear where the second season of Russian Doll would take us. Looking at the finale’s final moments, likely, Nadia and Alan Zaveri somehow find their way back to each other. Perhaps, it could also be one of the millions of timelines that might not happen. Further, the behind-the-scenes snaps do hint that the second season would travel back in the 80s. Though the creator hasn’t confirmed yet, it still one of the theories. But we are safe to say that Nadia will once again trap in a time loop.
