The Swamp Thing Season 2: The Swamp Thing was released on DC in 2019, and it was an instant hit. The show received 95% rotten tomatoes upon the release. That made everything think that The Swamp Thing Season 2 would happen. The first season of the show was released on August 2, 2019, and showed the origin of Swamp Thing. The inaugural season saw many characters from the original comics, including Abigail “Abby” Arcane and Jason Woodrue. The ten episodes of the series were eventually released. Soon after the release, DC decided not to bring The Swamp Thing Season 2 despite the love and appreciation from the fans.
After that, Swamp Thing came to The CW’s fall lineup in 2020. The series aired from October 6, 2020, to December 22, 2020. This made fans quite hopeful that it is possible that The Swamp Thing Season 2 would have a future at The CW. However, now reports suggest that the creators have something else in mind. Why was the show canceled? Would it ever be revived? Keep reading to find out-
Why Was The Show Cancelled?
After the creators canceled The Swamp Thing after the first season, reports suggested that the show was canceled because of funding issues. The sets of the show are pretty elaborate and expensive. The tax breaks that were promised to film in North Caroline never came through. Hence the network had to drop the show. With that, there is also another reason why the show would have been canceled. Reports suggest that the creators had a lack of belief in their material. Reports say that the higher-ups did not have much faith in the show. The studio was also unwilling to pay millions to keep the sets and the studios.
The Swamp Thing Season 2: Would It Ever Be Revived?
Given that the cost of production of the show is already high, there are a number of other factors that hint that the show might not get revived after all. The cast of the show does not any longer have contractual obligations to the creators and Warner for The Swamp Thing. This is something that the creators say is a tough recipe, and it would be extremely difficult to be revived. However, ever since the show was canceled, the show’s fans have been consistent with their #SaveSwamThings. There have been many tweets, petitions, and more asking Warners to bring back the show. The root cause, however, is pretty huge.
In a statement, TV Line’s editor-in-chief, Matt Webb Mitovich, says that keeping in mind how quickly DCU pulled the plug on The Swamp Thing Season and then keeping in mind that the sets are now gone. All the cast contracts have expired, sources have revealed to him that The Swamp Thing Season 2 isn’t happening anywhere. With that said, the creators have not officially said anything, so we can expect some news on it soon. We will keep you updated with all the news about the show as we get it.
