Netflix dropped it’s another anthology series, Unbelievable on Friday last week. The fans didn’t wait much and binge-watched the entire eight episodes of crime drama. And since then, they are wondering if Netflix might renew the show for Unbelievable Season 2.
Unbelievable is a drama miniseries of Netflix. The show is based on a report by T. Christian Miller and Ken Armstrong, originally published by ProPublica and The Marshall Project. Unbelievable is about a series of rapes in Washington and Colorado and investigation of the case leading to the suspect.
The story focuses on Marie Adler (Kaitlyn Dever) as she reports her sexual assault case to the police. According to her, she’s been sexually assaulted by an intruder in her home. However, things get pretty ugly when the investigating detectives, as well as the people closest to her, come to doubt the truth of her story. Though two detectives, Grace Rasmussen (Toni Collette) and Karen Duvall (Merritt Wever) meet with the same case and then investigation continues.
Unbelievable Ending Ruled Out Season 2
As Detective Rasmussen and Duvall come across the same case of a similar pair of intruder rapes, they partner up to catch the serial rapist. While investigation, it becomes clear that Marie was not lying and she is actually the victim of the same rapist that has been wandering and committing the crime.
Revelation takes place that a guy named Chris McCarthy (Blake Ellis) is the suspect. When the two Detectives tracked down who they thought was McCarthy, the guy end up being his brother. Though they investigate more in the house where the two siblings used to live. There they came along with quite a lot of rapist’s trophies that he’d gathered from each of his victim’s houses. They also found a camera and hard drive in which he kept all the photographs and records of the people he’d attacked, including Marie’s too.
At the final episode, it finally revealed that McCarthy had been rapping women across Washington State and Colorado for the past three years. Moreover, at every crime scene, he didn’t leave any evidence. This led Marie to believe that her trial had been made up. Though, by the end, McCarthy got caught and handed the maximum penalty of more than 327 years in prison. Also, Marie was offered $150,000 in compensation in a private case against the state.
Not just this, Marie also asked for the apology letter from original detective Parker (Eric Lange) whose false allegations damaged her reputation. After receiving the apology from him, she left Washington to leave everything behind. The show concluded with Marie calling Detective Karen to thank her for trusting her and allowing her to move forward.
Chances For Unbelievable Season 2
As per Netflix, Unbelievable developed as a miniseries. The show never intended to go beyond its first season. Like another Netflix originals including Godless, Maniac, The Defenders and more, Unbelievable came up as a limited series. However, the series was based on a true-crime story, and there are plenty of real-time crime stories out in the world which involved victims accused of lying. Therefore, looking at the viewership and rating numbers, the streaming service could put up another season for Unbelievable.
The streaming giant can turn the show into a series quite like HBO’s True Detective or FX’s American Crime Story. In that, each season of the series is an entirely new case involving new story and cast members. The fans are hoping their best to hear the renewal news on Unbelievable Season 2 as soon as possible.
