Ever since the first season of the anime, “Irregular at Magic High School”, ended in 2014 there was a lot of commotion among the fans about the release of The Irregular at Magic High School Season 2. For a while, no news was updated for the continuation of the series, but in late 2015 it was announced by Madhouse studio that the story would continue in Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei Season 2.

Irregular at magic high school movie takes place after the completion of the first year of Tatsumi and Miyuki at the high school, while they are on the spring break. The movie released in June 2017 introduced a few new characters to the story. One of them is Kokoa, a former associate of the Defence Navy’s Base of Japan. Kokoa deserted the Navy Base during the events of the Yokohama Disturbance arc of the first season and then met with Tatsumi and Miyuki during the story of the movie.
It is certain that Kokoa will appear as a regular cast in the Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei Season 2. The director said during the promotion interview of the “Irregular at Magic High School” movie that Kokoa and Tatsumi’s relationship will further advance even after the movie. The Irregular at Magic High School Season 2 will feature the second year of the brother and sister at the magic high school and also their newly found friendship with Kokoa. Magic loving anime fans are also waiting for KonoSuba Season 3 like they are waiting for the sequel of this series.
Updated on 02/01/2019: On June 17, 2017, an animated movie titled The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie: The Girl Who Calls the Stars was released across Japan. The movie was based on the original novel series and the 90 min movie used content from the 10th and 11th volumes of the novel. It is reported the movie was a success and the novel series is still running. The light novel series has a total of 27 volumes and was recently published on November 10, 2018.
This suggests there is enough content for The Irregular at Magic High School Season 2 and with studio’s interest in the series fans may get a new season soon.
Updated on 19/04/2018: In 2015 Madhouse confirmed there will be a second season, however, there has been no word from the creators or the studio. Earlier it was stated the Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei Season 2 will release in November 2017 which is not the case. For now, there are no updates on the anime series. Stay tuned. Though the light novel series is still running.
The Irregular at Magic High School Season 2 Updates
After 2 years of the completion of the Season 1, the Madhouse studio announced the arrival of the ‘Irregular at Magic High School: The Girl Who Calls the Stars’ movie. The movie was released in June 2017. But the release of the movie 3 years later to the release of Season 1 ensures the Irregular at Magic High School Season 2 will also take place sometime soon.

In the promotion conference of the Irregular at Magic High School movie, director Risako Yoshida said that Manabu Ono, director of the first season, will direct the second season as well and the Irregular at Magic High School Season 2 will consist of 13 episodes only while the first season had 26 episodes.

The show is set in an alternate reality where magic exists and is refined through modern technology. Tatsumi and his sister Miyuki are sent to one of the magic high school where they are separated on the basis of their magical abilities.
