He wants to understand how the church views homosexuality. Allen listens calmly and then answers, “Yes, that is not acceptable.” In his confessional, Allen seems confused about why Judah is even bringing it up. Judah later states that he feels stuck between two paths. He could come out as bisexual and risk being shunned, or stay quiet because there’s also a chance he might like a woman. In a recent clip, Judah’s mom arrives in the Lancaster Amish community to visit her mom. On Suddenly Amish, things turn a bit tense when Judah’s mom sits down with the members to have dinner. She attempts to learn about the Amish. Earlier in the clip, she says she has come to “plant a bug” in Judah’s ear to get him back home with her. She comments on Sarah’s bare feet and the lack of air conditioning.

She also tells Esmeralda to come out to visit her, and they can get pedicures. This evokes an awkward reaction from Esmeralda. Judah’s mom also comments that she cannot believe how people can live the Amish life. She states why the Amish push away the convenient inventions. James doesn’t want her to corrupt the group and answers that Judah is doing so, pushing away modernity.

Allen notes that James can be stubborn sometimes, and he can sense how James is taking on Judah’s mom. The latter also answers a phone call while Judah reminds her she cannot do that.
