In the recent episodes of the show, Maci has been very vocal about her eldest son, Bentley Edwards’s mental health.

Teen Mom OG star Maci McKinney and her 12-year-old son have been trying to normalize the topic on screens for the past few years. This is because the mother-son duo built up the courage to talk about Bently’s therapy on the show. Well, it’s rather hard for kids to understand the importance of therapy, let alone talk about it on camera. However, Maci’s young boy seems mature enough to know that his story can help others.
Maci had her first child with her ex-boyfriend Ryan Edwards back in 2009. After another relationship in between, she went on to date motocross racer Taylor McKinney. After two other kids with Taylor, the family of five lives happily while appearing on MTV’s Teen Mom OG. However, Bentley has been facing some issues related to his relationship with his step-father. The topic of his therapy has been discussed on the show very often. Recently, Maci revealed to E! News that she, Taylor, and Bentley had talked about it before they started filming.
Bookout talked about how the parents asked their 12-year-old son whether he would want to film and discuss her personal life on camera. Moreover, Maci added, “I even asked if he cares if Taylor and I discussed it on camera”. But, the young boy agreed to do it from the get-go. This is why they talked about the topic in the first place. In fact, she and Teen Mom OG’s producer had already made it clear that Bentley can stop if he doesn’t want to talk about it at any time.

Aside from talking about Bentley’s consent for filming his personal life, his parents have also talked about the purpose of it all. The middle-schooler knows that discussing things about his therapy would normalize the sensitive topic for a lot of people. In fact, he even made comments about “wanting kids to know that it’s normal”. Maci also expressed how she was proud of her young boy. She even said that “he’s wise beyond his years”. However, she does not know how her son became so wise.
