The Young And The Restless Recap For January 20, 2022: Chance Talks To Abby, Christine Sets The Record Straight

The Young and The Restless recap reveals that Thursday’s episode of the CBS soap was full of family drama and action. This episode was about celebrations for a few. However, some were still struggling with their emotions. First, the Custody battle is affecting a lot of people around it. Next, Nick is concerned about Noah.

Viewers also saw Tessa having a romantic surprise for Mariah. Not only that, But The January 20, 2022 episode also witnessed Chance struggling because of his past. What was all that about? Keep reading to find out.

The Young And The Restless: Custody Battle Discussion

Starting off the episode was Amanda Sinclair bringing Elena Dawson to speed up the custody case. Elena would completely understand Abby’s reaction because of what she went through last year. Elena also thought that the fear of losing a child was primitive, and Abby’s reaction was justified.

Next, at the Penthouse, Abby was sick of everyone acting like Chance could not be a good father to Dominic. She is tired of Devon repeating his selfish agenda of having Dominic’s custody. She requests Chance to discuss with her elsewhere.

Later, viewers saw Devon admitting to Nate that the custody battle would get ugly. Nate convinces Devon to go out for a run and distract himself from all this. After a while at the Chancellor Mansion, Abby complains to Chance about talking to Devon about everything.

She feels that since Devon is going to the court, they must have some boundaries with him. Abby looks worried as she thinks that Devon might use Chance’s mental health as a weapon against them in court.

On the other hand, Chance admits to Abby about how much he has been struggling. Chance tells Abby about how the ghost of his past has been haunting him for a while now. He relives the explosion in his nightmares even while he’s awake. Chance also feels that he is letting Abby down. Abby, in the end, assures him of getting some help. Abby thinks that Chance needs to rest for some time and then meet Christine Williams.

Meeting With Christine Williams

The recap reveals that Abby and Chance sat down with Christine Williams, the lawyer who made the original agreement. She admits that agreement is not as simple as it seems. She also notices that there isn’t much legislation in Wisconsin to regulate the gestational surrogacy process, and there isn’t much relevant case law.

Christine tells Abby and Chance that the Judge will make a decision based on what’s best for the kid. However, she also warns them that it is easier for the Judge to rule in favor of Devon.

Christine brought some good news too. She said Abby and Chance are a married couple, providing a stable and loving home to the baby. So, they can argue that Devon’s shared custody could be disturbing and confusing for the baby.  Christine also tells them about the original agreement stating that Devon didn’t want to play any role in raising Dominic from the beginning.

However, Devon’s side could argue that Abby left Dominic under Devon’s guidance while she went to Spain. They could also argue that Abby encouraged Devon to take the paternal role as Chance was unavailable. Christine tells Chance that he might have to get on the stand and accuse Devon of lying. Abby highlights that Chance would do anything for his family, but he declares that he wouldn’t lie in court or to himself. Chance says that Devon is absolutely correct to question his abilities as a father.

The Young And The Restless: Nick Is Concerned For Noah

At Crimson Lights, Mariah and Tessa would be discussing something which might have made Noah a bit upset. Nick then notices that Noah is putting himself completely into work details. After a while, they take a break, so Nick asks Noah something. Nick acknowledges how Noah could have gotten upset when Tessa left with Mariah.

He talks about Noah’s past with Tessa, but he admits that he might be dealing with some old feelings surfacing. However, Noah says that these feelings are not harmful as Tessa is completely in love with Mariah. Noah assures Nick that he is in support of Mariah and Tessa. He promises to focus on work-family and have fun.

Tessa’s Surprise For Mariah

Furthermore, spoilers suggest that Tessa surprises Mariah with a romantic evening. Finally, Tessa goes down on one knee and pops the question to Mariah. She mentioned how strong they have become and how they can now forgive each other’s mistakes. Mariah mentioned her concerns; she asked Tessa if she was doing this because of adoption plans.

Tessa tells her that she has always wanted to do this. Tessa was waiting until they both were ready. Mariah tells Tessa that she wants to tell her something. She praises Tessa for being patient and showing so much courage, especially after what happened this summer.  Mariah accepts Tessa’s proposal, and Tessa slips the engagement ring on her finger.

The Young And The Restless: Chance Is Struggling

Rounding off the episode were Abby and Chance at the Chancellor mansion. Abby and Chance are alone, and she hugs him. She promises Chance that she wants him to get better. However, Abby is cautious of giving Devon permanent legal rights because Chance will get better in the near future. Chance insists again that there is nothing wrong with Devon wanting to have a more permanent role in the baby’s life.

Abby comprehends that Dominic already has a father. Chance shouts, “Stop Saying that!”. He adds that he is no good to anyone and tells Abby that he is broken. Abby is worried about how Devon would ask for more time in the future, but Chance suggests giving him the benefit of the doubt. Chance accepts Devon’s love for Dominic and wants to welcome him into the family. Towards the end, Abby might change her mind and set up another meeting with Devon to mull over.
