Overlord Season 2 has many questions to answer, as the first season left behind so many mysteries. Yes, you read it right, Madhouse is the production studio behind Overlord, a production house which usually sidelines a few series after heir debut season. The best example of these would be Highschool of the Dead Season 2 and No Game No Life Season 2 which are still in questions. Fortunately, this is not the case with Overlord, the company is loving the series just like fans.
The first season ended in September 2015, the creators decided to make two theatrical adaptation of the anime. The first compilation movie is titled “Overlord: The Undead King” and was premiered on February 25, 2017. The second compilation movie is “Overlord: The Dark Warrior” which premiered on March 11, 2017, the movie compilation are titled from the first two volumes of Kugane Maruyama’s light novel. The movies also feature some added scenes and new characters designed by so-bin (illustrator of original novel series).
The rumors about Overlord Season 2 panned out to be true when it was officially announced at the end of the second compilation movie that fans will soon see Momonga back in action. However, fans knew it was coming and were pretty confident about the second season when 2 compilation movies and new artwork were released. Fans were disappointed when they heard no news about the second season after the first movie but creators managed to surprise fans when they appeared in post credit and announced the news.
Overlord anime series premiered on July 7, 2015, and aired for 13 episodes. The plot is set in the year 2138 where the virtual reality gaming is booming. A popular online game, Yggdrasil, is shut down one day. The series’ protagonist Momonga decides to not log out of the game. In result, Momonga gets transferred into the game world and becomes the image of a skeleton as “the most powerful wizard.” The new world continues to change as the non-player characters (NPCs) starts feeling emotions.
Out of 11 volumes of the novel, the first season of Overlord covered three volumes, so the creators have ample of content to pull out original story for Overlord Season 2. In the second season, viewers will see Carne Village, as Lupus Regina. Furthermore, there are other speculations which suggest that in the second season we will meet Lizardmen. It is a group of criminals which has only appeared in the manga adaptation so far. For recall, we heard about these villains in the finale episode of the first season.
